It was a sudden occurrence. Pyrite Town was darker than before; word spread that the town was run by Cipher. The crime rate skyrocketed; the small police force couldn't keep up. A large colosseum was to be built in the middle of the desert, as well as a secret lab. The previously hidden Team Snagem base was mysteriously blown up...twice. On top of it all, some Pokemon were downright ferocious, even going as far as attacking their own trainers.
I wanted to get to the bottom of this strange set of events, so I asked around Pyrite Town, all while getting pulled into Pokemon battles. Many trainers had these weird Pokemon, and they were difficult to beat. My [F/P] managed to take them all on though. I did find out that trainers who beat the local colosseum were rewarded with these fighting machines. And with that, I went to Pyrite Colosseum to enter the next battle.
"I'm sorry, but our last spot just closed," the receptionist apologized. I only sighed. Of course, I just have that sort of luck. I shoved my hands in my pockets and walked out of the rusted colosseum, once again being greeted with the dirty, hot air of Pyrite. As I made my way across the rickety bridge, I could see the busy Battle Square; an infamous area where all sorts of punks wait around for some poor trainer to beat up and take their money. In fact, some poor trainer was being picked on right now. He had two rare Pokemon though; Umbreon and Espeon. And they worked together perfectly; Umbreon took the hits while Espeon dealt them. Soon it was two against one.
The next thing that happened though, was unbelievable. The blue-clad trainer took out a Pokeball, and threw it at his opponent's Pokemon. Normally, catching other trainer's Pokemon wouldn't work, since they already had a Pokeball. Except, the creature, like a wild Pokemon, was sucked in and after a few moments, the Pokeball clicked shut; signalling a successful capture. The Pyrite trainer was shocked, to say the least. He started yelling profanity as the mysterious trainer picked up his newest catch.
"C'mon man, I just won that Shadow Pokemon!" The loser yelled, fists clenched at his sides.
The other man just looked at him apathetically, all while pocketing his new addition. His orange haired companion looked a little more sympathetic, and tried saying it was all for the greater good.
He looked in my direction, and that's when I noticed his golden eyes. Gold. It was a bright color, yet when I looked into his eyes I saw darkness. They were sharp, and had no sparkle to them.
That was the first time I encountered someone I didn't realize I'd call a hero, and a friend. His name was Wes, and his friend Rui. He was took on the challenge of stealing, or snagging, all the Shadow Pokemon made by Cipher and purifying them. It seemed impossible to me, especially the purifying part. Wes managed to befriend all fifty or so Pokemon, even the legendary beasts, and opened their hearts once more. I always wondered how though; he always seemed so detached even after the many months I've known him.
One night, while we were staying in Agate Village with Rui's grandparents, I woke up to the sound of the door closing. Looking around, there was no Wes to be seen, and his things were gone. The clock read 2 am. 'Where is he going at this time?' I thought. I slipped my shoes on, not bothering to change out of my [F/C] pajamas, and followed him out.
The moon lit up the greenery of the village, and allowed me to easily spot the blonde from my spot. He was down by the bridge, packing his things on his motorcycle. Espeon and Umbreon were seated in their little sidecar, watching their trainer. He was leaving us?
I ran down the hill, being as careful as possible since the grass was slightly slippery. I used tree roots to help myself get traction, and soon I was running straight for the wooden bridge.
"Esp!" The purple Pokemon noticed me, seemingly happy to see me. Wes took notice of my presence, and momentarily stopped his packing.
"What are you doing?" I asked, once I caught up, panting slightly.
"What does it look like?" He replied, voice emotionless as always.
"Alright, then let me change the question; where are you going?" I said, crossing my arms.
"Somewhere."
Fantastic. He was always like this. Never a straight answer and acted all mysterious. He probably did it to keep up his reputation as neighborhood, edgy asshole. I mean, what hero wears ankle bracelets with spikes on them.
"Somewhere? Thanks," I responded sarcastically. "Why?"
"I'm not needed here," He said, going back to his packing.
"Not needed? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Rui and I would sure disagree. Besides, just because Cipher is gone doesn't mean you aren't needed," I grabbed his shoulder, forcing him to look at me. When I mentioned Cipher, he seemed to tense up, although that may have been my imagination.
"You don't get it, and I'm not going to discuss it with you," Wes said, his tone getting angrier. Espeon and Umbreon looked sadly at their trainer, whining slightly.
"It sure seems like there's something, and that's not just because your Pokemon are complaining," I moved my hands, and took his own, squeezing them slightly. "You can talk to me."
"You'll hate me," he looked to the side, avoiding my eyes.
"I certainly won't; you saved Orre," I softly smiled at him.
"That's the thing...I'm no hero," the blonde quietly admitted. "I...It was all for selfish reasons and I don't know what to do now. I don't know if I can do it now."
"Do what?"
"The reason I abandoned Team Snagem and took down Cipher wasn't for Orre. I...I wanted Cipher all for myself. I saw an opportunity to take it all for myself. I wanted to lead Cipher after I destroyed them," Wes said, his voice shaking every now and then.
I was shocked though. Sure, he didn't seem like a typical good guy, but that whole time he had evil intentions? My hands slipped from his gloved ones. But once they slipped from his grasp, the trainer quickly grabbed ahold of them again, more firmly than before.
"But I don't know if I can do it now...after meeting you I just sorta...lost focus on that, I guess," his golden eyes met my [E/C] ones.. They looked pained, like the hero inside him cried for help.
"Then stay here with me...besides, it looks like we have one more heart to open," I laughed. The ex-villain looked shocked that I wasn't shoving him away, and then smiled softly.
"Thank you, ____." Wes pulled me into a hug, while Espeon and Umbreon seemed to cheer from their seat. I returned the hug.
There was only one more heart left to purify, and I would be with him every step of the way.
