Chapter 4-Forest Girl

"Where did he go?" My second in command asked

"I don't know, he was just here"

Everyone from the royal guards were spread out into the forest searching for the steed that was rumored to possess beautiful horns and fur. I came out on this hunting trip thinking it would be the perfect distraction from the stress Father was giving about my marriage. Stubbornness and pride were strong traits that ran in the family, he was insistent on having me marry a princess.

 However I had no desire to. Why bother being engaged to someone who I have no feelings or love towards? High or class, what was the difference? Just so the kingdom would be given a advantage?

"Do you think that someone interrupted our hunt?" I shrugged

"Maybe, that would explain why he's suddenly ran away"

He groaned out of annoyance and had an irritated look on his face. I don't blame him, this one was a hard one to find.

"We have to get him again?" Mikhail whined

I just laughed at him, he's always been carefree and ignorant to everything in the world. I had always admired him for that, at the same time I felt a little jealous.

"Standing around and whining won't catch him. C'mon be a good sport" I said walking my horse to his and patting him on the back.

He groaned and went with the rest of the guards. In the corner of my eye I saw another horse race across from where I was standing. What confused me was it wasn't one of the soldiers.

 What is a commoner doing out here? 

Looking around everyone was either busy or involved in another task. Turning my horse I started running towards them. I lost them after a while but then I heard a voice.

Following it I found a young girl in front of the same stag we had been chasing after. Looking at it from head to toe I noticed an arrow lodged into his calf.

One of soldiers must have shot him

She got off her horse and started coaxing and talking to him while trying to make an attempt to get the arrow. I was so intrigued by her actions I spaced out until I heard someone talking from a distance. That brought my back to reality. She was standing in front of me, her eyes furrowed in confusion. But her face was lit with fear.

Why is she scared?

"Oh, sorry. Um, my name is Luc"

"Well that was... interesting" Mikhail my second in command said smirking while riding his horse next to mine.

He hasn't shut up since we met that strange girl in the forest. She said her name was Anne, but I doubt that was her real name. She wasn't looking at me straight in the eyes, and she was fidgeting the whole time on her horse. 

Why was she lying?

"Did you see your face? Priceless! Absolutely hilarious! She's definitely something" I simply rolled my eyes at him

"Shut up" I grumbled, even though I couldn't see his face I knew he was smirking at me.

"I look forward to seeing her interact with you, she's very interesting"

Back at the palace, Luc's mind still seemed to be stuck in the forest. He just couldn't get that young girl out of his mind. It wasn't everyday you found someone living in your kingdom not knowing you to be a royal heir to the throne.
