Chapter 4: The Departure
When Alex and his father exited the Library Gateway the 'figures' were waiting to close the portal. Alex was struggled to get through once again. He still got the feeling that he was walking into plastic. He even at one point began suffocating. Felix gave him some tips for traveling through portals.
"You have to think about where your getting to, and envision yourself there. It rarely happens but people have gottten stuck in time-space." Felix saw the look of concern on Alex's face."That couldn't happen using this particular portal because its a 'one-way' gateway. You can only get to the sacred library through this one."
"Oh ok. Well I'm going to go prepare for our trip. I'm gonna be at Brianna's house for 2 days then hag out with Trent and Jordan for one. Then I'll be ready to go." Alex said. He was waiting for a comment from his dad about his girlfriend. But one didn't come. "Nothing to add. Not even about your disapproval about Brianna?" Alex said to get a pending argument out of the way.
"It's not that i don't approve of her. It's just that... You two are inceperable. I didn't think the relationship would've lasted this long... and now with the family secret." Felix paused continuously.
"What are you trying to warn me about?" Alex said actually interested in the conversation.
"It's going to be hard balancing your relationships and responsibilities. Plus, she lives in a world that she knows very little about, and she can get hurt...And not only by the monsters." Felix muttered the last part underneath his breath relluctantly.
"The council right?" Alex paused thinking,"I'll just make sure she doesn't find out."
"Alex things happen that you can't control. And I'm not saying the council will go out of there way... they are unreasonable at times and what they say is law. They'll have their eyes on you two. Just be careful ok." Felix pleaded.
Alex saw the worried look in his fathers eyes. He couldn't be mad at his father, because the words were wise and stemed from concern. Alex walked over and hugged his dad.
"I'll be fine I promise." Alex smilled at his dad. He grabbed his jacket and headed downstairs. Halfway down the stairs Felix stopped Alex and their was an awkward pause between them.
"Alex... you and Brianna aren't... ya' know?" Felix asked with his eyes shut. To spare him the awkward look Alex had on his face.
"Ugh.. what do... yo mean?" Alex asked choosing his words carefully. He knew exactly what his father meant though. He wanted to try and make it so awkward for his dad that he didn't have to give him a straight answer.
"You know good and damn well what I... aw nevermind, go enjoy yourself and don't do anything too stupid." Felix said, giving up any chance of an answer. "For an honors student you sure ask some dumb questions..." Felix said shaking his head.
Alex rushed outside, he was surprised to see that it was still daylight. He grabbed his phone and noticed that time had hardly moved since he'd gone through the portal. Then just as he opened his phone he got several notifications on his phone. He checked the ones from Brianna first. You must not get reception when your in between multi-dimensional time rifts, he thught to himself. He looked at the messages.
Brianna:
Hey come over. (21 minutes ago)
I got a suprise for you. ;) (15 minutes ago)
Do i need to spell it out for you? <3 ( 8 minutes ago)
Alex wanted to get on his bike and ride straight to Briannas house. But he had to stop by Trents house first. To tell him about the trip and come up with an excuse as to why he had to go to Greece out of the blue. Alex contemplated what he was going to say. Trent already knew too much about Alex for him to say something like ' my relative died' or 'road trip'. So he let Trent tell him whyhe was leaving.
