Ch. 6 - Choices Choices Choices

A week passed, and I was in a dumpster, searching for the shiny object I had spotted. Bullet was in the one next to me, and Flame was across the street. I pulled myself out, smiling as I inspected the shining golden watch. All it needed was a tinker and it would be working again and we could sell it!

‘Really, why didn’t we think to look round here before? These guys are rich on this street!’ asked Flame, coming over, clutching a bunch of trinkets.

Bullet straighten up. He held a silver bracelet, adorned with black gems.

‘Here, Magpie, come here!’

I went over, and he clasped it round my wrist.

‘Suits you.’ He grinned.

I smiled back.

‘C’mon, shop now.’

On the way, I spotted a note. I went after it, Bullet and Flame in pursuit. It blew round corner, and Bullet overtook and went after it. We heard a yell and raced to see some people making off with his unconscious body.

‘BULLET!’ I screamed.

Flame held me back.

‘We’re going to need everyone to retrieve him.’ He said.

We raced back, my mind whirring. Who would take him? Why? We barged the door open and they looked shocked.

‘Where’s Bullet?’ asked Cobra.

‘He’s been taken!’ I screamed.

‘WHAT!’

Flame explained and we huddled together.

‘Okay, I have an idea. Now…’

Bullet’s p.o.v

Oww… my head was throbbing. I opened my eyes to find I was in a room. But this was a girl’s room. I looked round to see some pictures on the desk. I looked closer, and saw they were Magpie with a few other men.

‘This must be her room.’ I thought.

The door opened and a man came in. He was about nine years older than me, he looked about twenty-eight.

‘So, you’re Magpie’s adoptive father?’ I asked coolly.

‘Yes.’ He replied curtly. ‘And her name is SJ.’

‘Sorry, but to me she will always be Magpie.’ I said.

He ignored that comment. I spotted another man in the door. He was a few years younger, about twenty-five.

‘And you are?’

‘CC. Her boyfriend.’ He replied.

‘Don’t say that. I haven’t approved just yet.’ Growled Magpie’s dad.

‘So, what do I call you?’ I asked cheerfully.

‘Ashley.’ He said. ‘What is your name?’

‘Bullet.’

‘Real name?’

I glared.

‘Olli.’ I muttered.

‘Right, what have you done to my daughter?’

‘Kept her safe.’ I sneered. ‘Fed her, protected her, treated her like a little sister.’

‘Where is she now?’ asked CC.

‘With the guys.’

‘There’s more of you?’

‘Oh yes. You include Magpie and me and we make a nice round ten. All us guys and Magpie.’

Ashley grimaced.

SJ’s p.o.v

‘Okay guys, I found where he’s being kept.’

I looked up as Link came in.

‘Good. Right guys, let’s go.’

We left, keeping to the roofs as it drew less attention.

‘That one there.’

My blood went cold. It was my house.

‘Right, I know a back way in. I’ll go in, and open the window he’s in.’

‘Good luck Magpie.’ Said Bomb.

I ducked into the yard, and pulled the grate off. Slipping through, I was in the cellar. I snuck up the stairs, and slid through the house. All the guys were asleep. Good. I stopped outside my room. Ashley was at the door, asleep. I slid past him, and pushed the false panel open and slid through. I had found it months ago. Inside, Bullet was on my bed, asleep. I sneaked over and tried to open my window. Blast they had locked it. Still I was prepared. Taking a pin off my jeans, I picked the lock. It clicked and I flung the window open. The warm air woke Bullet.

‘Wuzzgoingon?’

‘Shut up and let’s move!’ I whispered, hugging him.

The guys threw rope down and I attached it to the window. There was noise.

‘What are you doing in there!’

‘Move Bullet!’ I shouted. He climbed the rope and was soon up. I detached it as the door burst open and Ashley came running in.

‘SHIT!’

I jumped, but he caught my ankle.

‘ANDY! JINXX!’

‘Pull guys! Don’t let go Magpie!’

They heaved and Ashley, Jinxx and Andy pulled.

‘Guys, I can’t… hold… on…’

‘Magpie, keep holding on!’

It was at this point my boot came off, and all three went tumbling backwards, and I was left hanging. The guys hoisted me up and we all laughed our heads off.

‘Oh brilliant!’ laughed Atomic.

‘Absolutely hilarious.’ Laughed Link.

Bullet held me tight.

‘You all right sis?’ he asked.

‘Yeah, thanks for asking bro.’ I replied.

I saw the three at my window.

‘SJ! Get back here now!’ yelled Ashley.

Bullet held me tighter and yelled before I could respond.

‘Why don’t you just go find a new replacement!’

I gasped. Ashley looked shocked.

‘Is-Is-Is this why you left?’ he stammered.

‘You’re not denying it are you!’ Flame shouted.

Ashley shook his head.

‘SJ, please, you’re not a replacement! I know I said things I shouldn’t have, but trust me, I love you for who you are!’

I was silent, not sure whether to believe him or not
