Maya's POV

Could this day get any crazier!? I mean first we were chased by that, thing! Then, it chases us all the way to flipping Manhattan! And to end it all, this middle-aged lady grabs us and pulls us into her house!

Let me back up a bit. My full name is Maya Orion Valdez and I'm 14 years old. I used to live in Philadelphia, until now. I had a brother who was two years older than me until the foster system separated us.

My best and only friend is a girl named, Samantha Jackson, but she goes by Sam. She has waist length, wavy black hair with sea-green highlights and sea-green eyes with blue streaks.

Though we are alike in many ways, we have our differences. In a way, we're like fire and rain. She's calm. I'm raging. But, that's what makes us stronger.

As I was looking at the woman, I noticed something. She looked like Sam.

We were just kind of staring at each other, until  she broke the silence.

"Are you girls okay?" Honestly she sounded so worried, that it reminded me of- no. No thinking about that.

"We're fine ma'am." Sam replied.

I saw something change in her face, but she quickly hid it. This woman was good.

"Come on. I have some cookies and sodas in the living room." She said while motioning to a doorway in front of us.

"Who are you anyway?" I asked suspiciously. As if I was going to trust a lady whom we didn't even know her name.

She smiled as if she expected this. "I'm Sally. Sally Jackson, and you two are?"

I looked over at Sam, who's jaw was pretty much on the floor.

"Maya Valdez." I answered with a nod.

"S-Sam J-Jackson." Sam stuttered out. This was the most shocked I've ever seen her, and that's saying something.

The Sally's eyes widened. "Sam as in Samantha?"

"Y-yeah. How'd you know?"

"That was- no it can't be. She went missing...."

"I'm fine." Sally said resuming her confident face. "It's just, I had a daughter by that name."

"Y-you did?" Sam asked hopefully.

"Yes. But, she went missing a few years ago."

"I woke up in Philadelphia with no memories a few years ago...."

Both of them were crying now, which I just rolled my eyes at. Honestly though, it made me miss Mom.....

"-ya! Maya!" Sam yelled at me knocking me from my thoughts.

"What?"

"C'mon, Sally is going to look through her photo book to see if I'm her daughter or not." She said excitedly. She seemed so hopeful, that this woman we just met, was her mother. I decided not to burst her bubble by saying anything, so I just followed her into the room.
