Papyrus reached Waterfall and went to Undynes house, at the door he heard someone playing the piano.
He knocked the door and waited, but didn't got any response. The piano probably drowned out his knocking.
He knocked again but louder.
The music stopped and the door finally opened.
"Ah Papyrus, I hope I didn't let you wait too long, come in."
Papyrus entered her house, for a woman so strong and feisty her house had a cosy interior.
"I'll get some reports, you can sit down if you want to."
Papyrus sat down on the sofa waiting for Undyne.
It didn't take long before she came back with her arms full of reports.
"These are the reports my guards wrote down while you were taking some time off. They had to write down everything they thought to be suspicious. I didn't had time to read them yet so I thought you might be able to help me."
"No problem Captain."
The first few reports were pretty boring, a few were about fights, one was about a monster who claimed to see a ghostly skeleton.
"Ridiculous..." Papyrus muttered.
There was even one they thought was very amusing, it was a conspiracy theory about a flower who could talk and think for himself.
"Most of them are silly rumours though, but I've let them write down in case something might be actually true.
A few reports later Papyrus saw a report about someone who saw Sans with a girl.
"Sans?...With a girl? But that was impossible." He thought.
"Papyrus? Something wrong? You look shocked." Undyne asked.
"Just a silly report about Sans."
"How so?"
"Someone who thinks he saw Sans with a girl."
Undyne bursted out laughing.
"Sans??? With a girl??"
"Yea...I know, it can't be..."
Or could it?
Papyrus soon shook the thought of Sans with a girl off.
Who would want to date him any way?

They kept going through reports sorting the ones that were worth researching and the ones who sounded plainly ridiculous.
"According to someone you were caught flirting with Alphys, Captain." Papyrus said having great difficulty with holding in his snickering.
Undyne freaked out.
"WHICH FUCKER SAID THAT?? I'M GOING TO BASH HIS FUCKING BRAINS IN!"
"Captain, calm down, like you said most of them are rumours aren't they?" He said with a smug face.
Undyne blushed, "Of course they are!" She tried to save herself out of it.
After a while they decided to take a break.
Undyne let out a big sight.
"Most of the reports are fucking useless."
She compared the sorted piles, the ones which were worth investigating was so much smaller than the ones which weren't worth the effort.
"Well...you did asked them to write everything down."
"Yea....I regret that by now....but if I didn't they wouldn't even know if something was suspicious even if it was right in front of their noses."
"Then why did you ever hired them?"
"I thought dogs would be great at guarding but all they do is going to bars playing games or getting drunk."
"Can't you discipline them? Show them who's boss?"
"I suppose I should."
After some small talk they sorted out the reports and eventually finished sorting.
"Papyrus, you're dismissed you can go home if you want."
"Okay Captain."
"I'll see you tomorrow."
"Goodbye Captain."
But Papyrus didn't go home right away, he wanted to go to Hotland so he could talk to Mettaton about the doubts which were still lingering through his head.
He texted Sans he would come home later today and made his way to Hotland.
He reached Mettatons home and rang the bell.
"Who is it?" A voice through the intercom asked.
"Mettaton? It's me, Papyrus."
"Papyrus? Wait, I'll let you in."
The door opened automatically and Papyrys entered. Mettaton had a lot of paintings hanging in his hallway.
Then Papyrus heard heels clicking, with each click the shape of Mettaton became more visible.
"Papyrus, why did you suddenly decide to drop by?"
"I...wanted to talk..."
"Talk? Sure we can talk." He grabbed Papyrus' arm and dragged him to the living room.
"Please make yourself at home." They both sat down in one of the sofas.
"So...what did you want to talk about?"
"Have you ever...felt as if it's wrong to fight?"
There was a long pause.
"Papyrus...you know I'm designed as a killer machine...right?"
"Yea? What about it?"
"Well...the truth is...I don't like the way I'm designed...Alphys...my creator would make me kill others even though I don't want to..."
Papyrus looked at Mettaton with wide eyesockets.
"Really?"
"Yes"

Another long pause passed, which Papyrus broke.
"The thing is....I've told you about my brother, Sans, you remember him?"
"Yes ofcourse, why?"
"I've been thinking......when we were small..he was the one to protect me, he took good care of me and...as I grew older I started to resign from him...I became bolder, stronger, meaner...because that was the kind of world I was brought up in. I started to treat my brother like a dog, constantly yelling at him, telling him what to do and now suddenly...I feel bad for him, he's my brother....and I just treat him so badly...."
Papyrus held his skull in his hands while Mettaton was caressing him on the back of his skull.
"Oh Papyrus, you have no idea how happy this makes me."
Papyrus lifted his skull up. "What?"
"You're changing, this must be a sign! I've always dreamed of a world where the rule of kill or be killed never existed!"
Papyrus could see the eyes of Mettaton sparkling.
"That's impossible..."
"No it's not, if we could make everyone realise that fighting isn't the solution to problems, if only they'd realise there are other way of surviving, such as working together!"
"Mettaton...think real for a second...we're talking about real life....no fictional stories where everyone is happy and sings and dance together. This isn't a show."
Mettaton looked offended, "Papyrus...just imagine a place where we can all be in peace."
Papyrus let out a sight and decided to go home.
"That's just utterly ridiculous...there's no such thing as a happy ending." He muttered to himself on the way home, back to Sans...
