I looked in the mirror as I brushed my mahogany red hair. Me and Sofia, another friend who was in Gryffindor, decided to dye our hair the colour of the rival of our houses. I dyed mine a mahogany red, and Sofia dyed the tips of her brown hair a seaweed green. I pulled on some black chelsea boots, a grey sweater, and jeans and walked out the Slytherin common room to the Great Hall for breakfast. It was a Saturday, a day where the students either woke up unreasonably early, or extremely late. I was in the first category. I saw Sofia and Hermione reading at our usual table, Luna sketching something. Four cups of some hot drink were in front of them. They expected me! I smile at Sofia's hair. She used to hate Slytherin because of Pansy, but I taught her that not all Slytherins were bad.
I met her on the Hogwarts express. We were both international students, me from Canada, and her from Malaysia. I had approached her and we started talking as we looked for a cabin. We saw one with a ginger, a brunette, and a very familiar boy called 'Harry Potter'. I used to tease Sofia that she was twins with Harry, because both of them had thick hair and round glasses. Sofia used to have really pale skin, but during the summer breaks she would go back home and get all the sunshine, so she ended up with tan skin by the end of our third year. During the sorting ceremony, they were all placed in Gryffindor and I was placed in Slytherin, but all of them came to me to tell me that it didn't change anything. They made an effort to talk to me during breaks and despite our houses being the largest of rivals, we stayed good friends.
I sat down next to the and they wished me a good morning. We were in our fourth year, far from our end of year exams, thank Merlin. I sneaked a peek at the book Sofia and Hermione were reading. Sofia was reading a book called 'The Mockingjay', I think it's a famous book written by a muggle author by the name of Harper Lee. "Sofia, is that the book written by Harper Lee?" I asked her and she laughed. "No, this is by Suzanne Collins." She said. "To kill a Mockingbird is by Harper Lee." Hermione corrected. Luna giggled about something and I looked at what she was drawing. She had a habit of drawing people ; she had done me, Harry, Ron, Neville, Hermione, Sofia, herself, and now, Draco.
I smiled to myself. These three people knew about my crush on Draco, Sofia's crush on Fred, Hermione's crush on Ron and Luna's on Neville. We were extremely close. "The Yule Ball is in a week!" I reminded them. Sofia groaned. "Do you think I could sneak in wearing pants?" She asked and Hermione tsked. "Wearing dresses isn't that bad!" "I know, but floor length dresses are horrible!" Sofia complained and I nodded. I didn't mind, but it was still annoying.
"Anyways, why don't we have breakfast, go to the Quidditch pitch, I think I saw the boys there, and we can go to any common room!" I suggested and they nodded in agreement. "Also, I almost forgot, as of yesterday in Transfiguration, I became Fred's girlfriend." Sofia shrugged. "What!" I let out, as Hermione and Luna stared at her. "Not that big of a deal. Let's look at your love life, Sarah. I have a plan, but that can be shared with the boys."
"No! Don't tell them!" I exclaimed. She shrugged. "If that's what you want. I'm sure we'll be able to find a way to help you, We have me, the insane, Hermione, the brains, and Luna, the mastermind. We'll be able to do it." She reassured me and Hermione snorted. "Alright, the two of you. I assume the boys should be up by now." Hermione said and we all walked to the field, Luna's radish earrings dangling due to the wind. We saw the boys flying and zooming around on their broomsticks. Neville was sitting by the sides as the Gryffindor team practised. We joined him.
"What's up, Nelly?" I asked and he groaned. "Don't call me that!" He exclaimed. "Why not, Nelly?" I asked and he buried his face in his hands. "Ooh, can I join?" I asked Oliver as he came down to see what the commotion was all about. "You're a Slytherin." he said pointedly. "Not all Slytherins are bad." I reminded him and he smiled. "Alright, Sarah, you can guard the holes and Alicia and Katie will try to shoot past you. They'll go easy on you!" he assured me, and I smacked his arm, only to have him chuckle. I was close with everyone. Oliver was almost my older brother. I zoom up to take my place, and Katie and Alicia try to shoot past me. They threw a dozen balls, but only one made it through. I only just joined the Quidditch team that year, but we haven't had a match due to the Triwizard tournament. Oliver congratulated me and criticised his team.
"You need to improve! Next year, I won't be here! You lot need to spend more time on broomsticks. George! Fred! Stop aiming the bludgers at passerby's, you'll kill them. Harry, you did alright. Alicia, Katie, you lot are good, but you can be better. Alright, Gryffindor, we're done for the day. Sarah, d'you think you could stop by to practise with us tomorrow? We could use the help." Oliver asked, and I instantly said yes. "Hey, I need to get something from my room. Meet you guys in the library? We should do homework there." I suggested, and we all went to our common rooms to get our books. I said the password for the Slytherin common room, and I walked in without hesitation. "Sarah." I heard a familiar voice.
"Hello, Draco," I replied. I had been dating Draco for about three months then. None of them knew - they just thought that i had a crush on him. Hah. "When will we be able to tell them?" He asked. He really wanted the others to know that we were dating. Maybe because so many people kept hitting on me. I was going to go to the Yule Ball with Draco, and even though I told the whole year, people kept asking me. Frankly, being good looking does have it's downsides.
"Today." I declared and he suddenly hugged me. "Come on - wait, I need to get my homework." I said, running up to my dorm. I quickly grabbed my things and ran back down. Draco was waiting where he was. We walked down hand in hand to the library. Once we walked in, we spotted them. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Sofia, Luna, Neville, Fred (I think Sofia asked him) and George (or they were just there to make mischief).
"Hey, there you are! Draco! Hi. What are you doing here?" Hermione asked suspiciously. "My friends, I have something to admit." I said in front of them. Madam Pince shushed me, and Draco shushed her back. I nudged him. "Do tell." Luna prodded. "Me and Draco have been dating for the past three months." I declared. An uncomfortable silence filled the area. We might've been in a library, but it was so quiet it was weird.
"Rubbish!" Fred whispered. "Don't be like that." Hermione chastised. "Bloody hell!" Ron exclaimed. "Shush it, Ron. Honestly, I called it." Luna smiled. "Are you sure you can trust him, Sarah?" Harry asked and I rolled my eyes. "Oh, of course she can. The nargles say so!" Luna exclaimed, and we all look away awkwardly.
"Okay, let's study. Hermione, my Astronomy is disastrous." I said as she reached over to help me.
After we finished studying, we decided to relax by the black lake. "Hey, Draco. I hope that we can put out differences aside and maybe become friends." Luna said dreamily. He nodded unsurely. I laughed at his weirded out face, Ron occasionally glaring at him. Fred and George ran off to cause trouble with Lee. "How long have you two been together?" Hermione asked, trying to break the ice. "Around three months," I replied, and Ron choked on his own saliva. "BLOODY HELL!" He exclaimed, and Harry slapped him on his back. "TWO MONTHS!" He exclaimed. "Three," Luna corrected. "You know, Sarah, if he hurts you, tell me and Ron. We'll take care of him," Harry offered and I laughed, laughing harder at Draco's face. "Potter!" He spat out. "Get off it, the both of you," I said, separating them with my hands.
"Boys!" Hermione exclaimed. Luna just smiled serenely. "Listen, you lot, you better get along, because I will NOT be abandoning my friends for my boyfriend or my boyfriend for my friends! Ron! Harry! Draco! Get used to spending a lot of time together, or else," I threatened. "Or else what?" Ron asked, his wand now trained on Draco. "I'm a Slytherin, you really don't want to know," I replied.
"CALM DOWN!" Sofia roared, and everyone stared at her. "Hermione, please, say something to stop ickle Ronniekins here from trying to kill blondie," she continued in a very forced calm voice. "Ronald Billius Weasley and Draco Malfoy, please try to refrain yourselves from ripping each other's throats out." Hermione said sternly. "Yeah," I added, glaring at Ron. "You're acting like children!" I exclaimed.
"Ron, get it together, not much you can do about it," Neville tried to calm Ron down, Harry patting his back. "Alright, alright," Ron grumbled and Draco pulled me closer to him.
"I'm sorry," I say, my cheeks now crimson with shame. "I didn't expect them to react this way. " I whispered to Draco, who kisses me on my cheek. "That's okay, father won't hear about this." Draco smiled, and Ron looked at the both of us. "Errr, Malfoy, I'm really sorry." Ron apologised, and Draco sneered but quickly changed his face. "Uhh, that's alright," said Draco. They shook hands quickly, ripping their hands apart as if they were both covered in maggots.
"Alright, see you later, me and Draco are going to spend some time together," I wave. "I'm going to see Fred. Bye," Sofia walks away. I go with Draco to the Slytherin common room and we lie down on a couch. "Drakey!" Pansy squeals and he rolls his eyes. "Not now, Pansy. Not ever, actually," Draco says as he snogs me right on the lips.
