"I want to take it all back. I saw nothing that night. I was making it all up. For attention." Cameron tells Detective Ryan. Her face is as hard as stone. Beautifully harden to reveal no emotion at all. Does he buy it? She can't tell. This was the only story she could come up with, the same story everyone was already spreading like a disease in their small crappy town. "Cameron is such a liar!" Her classmates would say as word got out. "They should lock her up in a mental hospital, with her mom!" A few whispered behind her back. "What a waste, she's kind of cute." Was the attitude among the football team.
"So...let me get this straight. You are now telling me you made the whole thing up? Ms. Duncan you do realize that making a false police report is a crime!" Detective Ryan asked her with skeptical eyes. "Yes. I was...mistaken. I'm so sorry to have wasted your time. I understand if you, if you have to arrest me!" Cameron struggled to get the words out while keeping her composure. Tears ran down her cheeks and it was becoming harder for her to make direct eye contact. The thought of going to jail at 15 years old was almost to much for her to take. She refused to crack now. She swallowed her pride, the image of the kids at school gloating that they were right all along filled her mind. Cameron balled up her fist at her side at the thought. More tears filled and stung her eyes. She had to do this. She had to keep Lexi safe. She had to fix everything, even if that meant she would have to live with a killer.
