A dose of happy vibes to start this chapter ^
Kane
Sighing, I get off the old leather chair and walk towards the door. My hand reaches for the knob carefully turning it open. The office has countless portraits of Rue's family, the Kings, scattered on every wall. The Alpha Office. The Boss Domain.
My shoulders slump from the weight, the baggage I haul everyday. My mind is frazzled; burned and weary. My eyes are tired; my body slowly shutting down. I close the door behind me and head for the main House door.
"Alpha," came a feminine voice behind me. I stiffen.
"Yes?"
"Is there something wrong? It's nearly three in the morning." A chuckle escapes my lips. I know that.
"Nothing's wrong. Go back to bed." I march out the door and head to the woods behind the House. The House has every unmated wolf in the pack, or those that simply can't support themselves. It boasts of thirty rooms, five master bedrooms excluding, two kitchens and a spacious living room. Perfect for a large pack.
Not anymore.
I undress swiftly, tucking them behind a bush before shifting.
The moonlight pierces the tree tops, sending shards of light onto the forest floor. My senses all become acute and tuned; my wolf pawing the ground softly.
The lake. Let's go to the lake.
He takes off. His surroundings are nothing but a blur, his paws subtly touching the ground before powering forward. Once he reaches he instantly dives into it, calmly swimming; the water cool and refreshing.
Once he's done, he goes back to bank before shaking off the wet droplets. He yearns for food; wolf food.
Hunt if you wish. Take your mind off the stress. Kill.
_______________I return to the House as soon as dawn breaks. The beautiful hues light up the twilight sky, giving hope and life to a new day. I've always loved sunrise; with the sun came a promise of a new day.
"Goodmorning Alpha," a voice booms. I look up and find my Beta, Roman. I manage a smile. "Hey."
"You look tired. Get some sleep?"
I shake my head, walking into the kitchen. He follows my lead. The House is quiet, no one seems to have awakened.
"You can't do this to yourself Kane. You need to rest, sleep. Recuperate," he explains, sitting on a bar stool.
"Roman, you know I can't. Not when the Pack needs me," I answer. I rummage through the cupboards and find some bread and cheese. "I'm making sandwich, want one?"
Roman shakes his head. "I'm fine thanks, Wendy made me breakfast before I came." The beautiful and humorous Wendy, Roman's mate and wife. She was quirky as they came, with a pint of sass and a generous serving of humor. A perfect math for the strong headed Beta before me.
I nod at him. "I've been thinking, we should send the elderly to Eyre where they can recover properly from the war. I've made a few calls and they've agreed to take them in. It'll be good for them and for us," I say, sitting down infront of him, my sandwich and a glass of juice in hand. "They don't need to be reminded everyday of what happened in this Pack."
Roman looks thoughtful for a moment, his finger tapping his cheek. "Good idea. I can gather a few men to help with the renovations with some houses; the current carpenters look like they need the help." Nodding, I take a bite out of my sandwich. That's two problems tackled.
