A new year a new start, right?
I brushed my teeth and left the door, mom hurried me in to the car.
We are going to the 'Newyear's Community Reception', I hated it.
Every year again, my mom would talk to what I call the 'old annoying ladies club'.
Even though my mom wasn't that old, she always preferred the company of the elderly women in our neighbourhood.
My sister and dad walked around the tables smiling at people and stealing the food, well it was free but I don't think you're supposed to eat that many cupcakes and crackers.
I turned on my phone, Stefanie still hadn't answered any of my messages, she's probably sunbathing on some hot and far away island her uncle owned.
I walked trough the dead and frozen community garden and watch my breath turn into white and steamy looking clouds.
I kept walking around trying not to freeze my feet off.
Suddenly I was stopped by another trail of hot breath passing by my face.
I looked to my left, and saw a smiling silhouette of a guy standing my way.
I squeezed my eyelids together, trying to see who it was.
"It's me, Ellie's cute next door neighbour" he whispered.
"What?.." I exclaimed like I didn't know that was what all my friends called him, the oh so good looking attractive guy who so happened to live next to me.
"I've heard you girls talking you know, I've always been jealous at girls and their sleepovers, boys don't do that, talk about there feelings and cute girls."
"To bad.." seconds after I said it I regretted it. Seriously 'to bad' that's your way to 'woow' the boys Ellie? Gosh.
"Wanna get a drink across the block?" He asked politely.
I glanced inside at my overenthusiastic mom talking about the newest knitting book and figured she wouldn't mind.
We walked across the street into a cozy looking place called 'The Rose Bottle'.
He saw my curious look, "It's new, opened about 3 weeks ago." he answered to my unasked question.
We walked trough the newly painted double door and entered a room with walls decorated with hand painted vintage flowers and curls and chairs that looked to antique to sit on.
He took my chair and gestured his hand for me to sit on it., "my lady".
I giggled like and idiot and sat down.
"What would you like to drink miss?"
"A diet coke pleas".
"Not on any funny diets are you?"
"Oh no, I just like the taste better, does that make me weird..?"
"Yes, and I like weird."
I blushed but luckily he didn't see it because he was already on his way to the bar.
"Gosh he's good looking..."
A woman in the seat behind me giggled.
No,.. I can't believe I said that out loud,.. oh god.
After a minute or two he came back with two diet cokes.
I looked weird a him.
"What? I've never tried it, maybe it does in fact taste better!"
"I smiled and he smiled back and,.. did he? Yes! He winked, it was so subtle but I saw it! Omg Ellie's cute next door neighbour winked at Ellie, Ellie liked it.
I finished my drink and realized I'dd been away for half an hour.
"I got to go, my parents are probably worried about me.."
"Oh,.. Okay"
I stood up and balled up my fists, gosh I've got to do something, say something, I don't know.
I turned back around to him and stuttered, "I.. eum, thanks for the drinks a-", he grabbed my shoulder and kissed my lips.
I am now stuttering even more "Oh" is all I manage to say before he started kissing me again.
"Finally" he says "You have any idea for how long I've wanted to do that?"
He took a pen and wrote down a telephone number on a napkin, "see you tomorrow?"
"Yes.." I exclaimed dumbfounded.
"Okay, that's a date"
And he just walked of, fixing his hair with a simple 'swoosh'.
God damn.
