Kris groaned, he had his eyes still closed, too tired to open them when his hand lashed around to find his phone, which gave a constant and relative loud sound. He finally was able to clutch his phone, with a quick swishing move across the screen, his alarm stopped. It took him a lot of willpower to open his eyes and shoot a glance on the numbers shining on his screen, telling him that it was already past 7AM. With a gaze over his surroundings Kris realized that he still was resting on the couch, supposing that he had just fallen asleep on it the past night.

With another unpleased groan, he sat up, ruffling his bleached blond hair. He really began to like his new hair colour, he used to have his natural colour all the time, a dark brown but he considered it as helpful to change his hair colour, in time with his name.

The sharp sound of his doorbell made him jerk. Kris again ran his fingers through his hair, the strange feeling again came creeping up in his stomach while he made his way towards the door rather slow. He was clueless about who would be standing in front of his door this early. It couldn’t be Yixing. The other used to show up in between 7:45 to 8:oo AM.

It had already been three weeks ago, since Kris met him and they had become a kind of real friends, even if Kris still wasn’t able to get himself to trust people. Also he wouldn’t want to imperil Yixing.

When he reached out for the door knob, he realised that his hand was trembling, what he commented with a quiet scoffing sound. He only opened the door so far that he could peek through a small gap. His eyes scanned the hallway up and down but no one was to be seen. Quickly he went on to close his door again, when he saw a small box in front of his door. No card, no note on it, just a small dark blue box. His breathing became faster and quickly he shoved the box inside with his foot.

As soon as he had smashed his door shut again, earning a rather annoyed comment from the man next door, which he ignored. Kris sank down, leaning against the wall, his gaze resting on the box. He would have to open it, after all it could also be anything that somebody just accidentally dropped and it wasn’t even meant to be for him. But maybe someone had dropped it there and it actually was meant for him.

Kris crossed his arms over his knees and rested his chin on top, still staring at the box. With a quiet snort he reached out to grab the box. The box clutched in his hand he went back to the small living room, throwing the little package on his coffee table,  letting himself slide down on the couch. Yet he didn’t took his gaze off the box for once, as if it might explode any second.

After he shot a glance on his phone again, he realised that Yixing would come to pick him up in less than fifteen minutes and Kris was still wearing only sweatpants and a thin shirt. Referring to the freezing temperature outside he decided to first get ready. Kris was secretly relieved that there was no time to open the small box now. He simply grabbed it and threw it on the kitchen counter. His apartment was rather small but enough for him to live in and also he felt comfortable in here. He had his living room, with a small TV, a couch and even a coffee table. Adjacent there was a small kitchen. yet there wasn’t even a door between the living room and the kitchen. A small corridor with his bedroom at the end of it and the door to the bathroom on the left.  Just now Kris made his way to that bathroom, quickly washing up. In just ten minutes he was out of the bath again, hurrying into his bedroom to decide on his outfit for today. Since he hadn’t much time left until Yixing would arrive, he picked simple black, skinny jeans, a white sweater with a decent, blue Norwegian pattern on the front.

Just after he had fixed his hair, Kris could hear the doorbell ring again, for the second time this morning. This time his hands wouldn’t tremble like earlier. Instead he grabbed his bag, leaving the bedroom and made his way through the living room and towards the main entrance quickly. When he had opened up the door he felt how immediately a pair of arms was wrapped around his waist and Yixing beamed up at him. It had first been pretty awkward for Kris how cuddly the younger one was. Kris had barely seen any people for more than three months, so it was slightly overwhelming him when his kind of best friend seemed to be the cuddliest person he had ever known. Though now he was used to it and it didn’t bother him anymore, it was sort of adorable.

He wrapped his arms around the shorter boy in return for a while before he pulled back to grab his coat and slip into his boots. Loosely he put on his coat, not even bothering to zip it, for what he earned a head shaking from the other.

Kris couldn’t help but smile to himself when the younger reached over to zip up his coat, scolding Kris for being careless like that He had to admit that for march it was still really cold but he didn’t really mind. Quickly grabbing his bag and keys, he closed his door behind him and the two guys made their way to school, Yixing soon holding onto the elders arm while they walked their way to school in calming silence.

Even despite the company of Yixing, this morning Kris wasn’t able at all to concentrate on the lessons. No matter how many times the teachers yelled at him for not paying attention, he just wouldn’t be able to think about what had happened earlier this morning. The picture of the dark blue box was tattooed in his mind.

The younger obviously knew that something was bothering Kris but he had known him long enough, to know that it wouldn’t make much sense to ask him about it. He would tell him when he felt like it.

Kris felt like he was ready to go back to bed when they finally left the school past 4PM. Otherwise, he wouldn’t want to return home now, knowing that the small package was still waiting for him to open it up. He would get his sleep tonight, he told himself as he walked by Yixing's side, his vision turned towards the ground. It was the younger who broke the silence when he announced that today they wouldn’t get to hang out together because Yixing would have an appointment at the doctors today. Concern flushed to Kris' mind before it turned into rather grumpiness. He remembered just a few days ago when the younger had told him about the appointment, nothing serious, just a check up on his waist which had been injured a few weeks ago.

Kris grumbled something under his breath before he turned towards Yixing with a smile, wishing him luck. His smile was immediately returned with a brighter one and the younger beamed him a thanks. The rest of the way wasn’t as quiet as before, the younger began to chatter about school and about his grandparents who he'd be visiting the next weekend. He seemed very exited about that due to how his voice got more disappointed when he realised that it was just Tuesday yet. The elder stopped in front of his apartment, able to feel Yixing crushing his ribs again as he tightly hugged him, reminding him that he had to eat dinner properly. Kris chuckled to himself. The younger used to say that every time their ways parted, he was always concerned about Kris not eating enough or him catching a cold because he never bothered to zip his jackets or wear scarves. Giving the shorter boy a last squeeze, Kris turned towards his apartment after he had said goodbye to Yixing.

As soon as he had closed his door behind himself, now standing in his living room, Kris felt a heavy feeling laying down on his chest.

With a quiet sigh he went to the kitchen, only shooting a small glance at the box, which was still laying just on the same spot like he had left it this morning.
