♥ Chapter Thirteen ♥

Tuesday was flying by way too fast as everyone was practically falling out of their chairs in anticipation for break.  Classes were rolling by without a strong focus, well, without a focus of any kind at all.  Kids were practically jumping off of the walls like sugar high toddlers by now.

I sighed, looking up at the clock in the lunchroom as I picked at my sandwhich.  I wasn’t a fan of the school’s food, no one was, and the full tray before me proved it.  Tricia was busy glaring at me from across the table.  I was slowly learning to ignore her.

“So Piper.” I started, meeting her eyes from across the table.  “Do you want to go skating with me on Thursday.” She looked up hesitantly, evaluating what I had just said and thinking of the proper answer.  She was still being my scapegoat.

“Uh, yeah, sure.” She started, awkwardly picking at the hem of her sleeve.  “I-yeah, uh huh, that seems fun.” She offered me a weak smile.

“Great, sounds like a plan then.” Tricia glared at me and shook her head.

“I hate you so much right now.” She said as she grabbed her tray and started away from the table.

“What’s her problem?” Mike asked, earning himself an elbow to the side.  I groaned before rising from my seat.

“I’ll talk to her.” I told them as I chased her down.  “Tricia,” I called out.  “What’s been up with you lately?”

“Up with me?” She asked.  “Up with me?  How about I ask that of you, it would seem more fitting.  I’m not the one with a boy toy wrapped around my finger, now am I?  I think you have terrible judgement when it comes to your friends.  I can’t believe that you are still trying to keep this from me.”

“Tricia,” I groaned.  “Please don’t be mad at me.”

“Oh, I’m not mad.  I’m damn peachey.  Not a worry in my mind, there isn’t, you liar.” She dumped her tray and stormed away to the halls.  So this was how she was going to play.  I chased her crabby butt down anyways.

“Tricia, I get it, you’re furious with me, I would be too, but please just get over it.  There is nothing going on between me and Sam, nothing more than what I have already told you.”

“You know what.” She stopped in front of me, crossing her arms over her chest.  “I was honestly starting to believe that too.  That was until I realized that he doesn’t have anatomy or calculus, that and he has better grades than you Kennedy.  What is really going on?  I want  a straight answer or I’m done with this.  Have fun finding a new best friend.” She turned on her heels and walked away.  I was even mad at myself.  Way to go Kennedy, way to go.

“Tricia, please wait,” I called after her as I reached out to grab her by the shoulder.  “Okay, you got me.  I’m not the tutor...I’m getting tutored.  Happy?”

“That’s not all of it though…” She started, looking right through me.

“You’re right, it isn’t.  The thing is that Sam and I, we’re…” I took a deep breath, looking down at my feet before mumbling to myself.  “Sam and I are married.”

“You two are what!?” She practically screamed as I flung myself at her.

    “Shhh!” I hissed.

“You got married and I wasn’t your maid of honor?  And to him?  I guess he’s kind of cute if you’re into that kind of thing.  I’m still mad at you.  I can’t believe you got married!  Kennedy, this is huge!”
