"Where are you taking me, Davey?" the 5 year old girl with firey red hair shouted as the rambunctious 6 year old boy with messy brown hair took her by the hand and began running.
"To the Tardis, Dia," He shouted as he pushed through the gate to his backyard. "The Doctor and Sarah Jane have work to do!" He said excitedly as the kids stopped to catch their breath in front of a refrigeratorbox that had been painted to resemble a blue police box.
"Wait..." Dia whispered as she looked up at the big blue box in front of her. "Are we gonna kill the Daleks again?" The small girl asked with big blue eyes.

"Yep!" He exclaimed. "Well? What're ya waitin' for? Come on!" He took her hand and pulled her into the box.
"Wait.." She whispered again.
"Davey, can I sit next to the controls?" Dia asked as the boy hurried to put his extremely long scarf and hat on. "I wouldn't have it any other way! Jelly baby?" David asked, putting on his best Tom Baker impression. Dia smiled and took one of the gummy candies from her friend.
The kids played all afternoon, until it started to get dark.

"David? Dia?" David's mummy poked her head inside the "Tardis." "It's time to come home." she smiled at the miniature Tom Baker and Sarah Jane Smith that were fighting off imaginary Daleks and saving some planet.
"Mum! Mum! Mum!" David shouted excitedly.
"Yes, love?" she smiled at her energetic son.
"Mum! Can Dia and I sleep in the telly room tonight?" He asked with big brown eyes. "Of course you can." She said as the friends high fived and ran out of their Tardis. She sighed. She knew things were getting worse with Dia's parents. Letting her stay with them was the least she could do.
Dia's mum arrived shortly after the family went inside and finished dinner.
She brought David's mum the rest of Dia's clothes and requested that she speak to her daughter before she left.
"Things with your da' aren' so greet, love." Dia's mum said quietly. "You know I love ye as much as I possibly can... I'm sorry it's come ta' this... I'll come see ye every day. Ye be good, ye hear?" Dia nodded and her mum kissed her on the top of the head and quietly slipped out the front door.

"Hey, Dia?" David whispered to his best friend huddled on the floor next to him.
"Yeah?" She whispered back, sadly.
"I know your parents fight and may not love you as much... but I love you..." David whispered and wrapped his arms around the girl that was now quietly crying next to him. She wrapped her arms around him and cried into his chest as he rubbed her back.
"I love you too, Davey." she whispered as he kissed her on the head.
"You know something?" David asked, trying to lighten the mood.
"Hm?" Dia asked.
"I'm gonna be the Doctor some day." He smiled.
"Can I be your companion?" she asked sleepily.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." He said, still rubbing her back.

The children fell asleep watching Doctor Who.

Dia smiled as she stood in London's airport and waited for her best friend's plane to land.

He's the only guy she'd ever wanted. He was the only guy she'd ever loved, and he was coming home from Wales today after having not seen her in months.
David kept in touch with her every day. He called her every night before he went to bed and spent at least an hour talking to her.

He and his parents were the only family she had. Her parents had divorced when she turned 6, her dad abandoned her and her mum, and her mum lost touch with her when she was 14.
David's family took her in with open arms when she was 5, and the lot of them had been tight-knit, unseperable since.
When they graduated school, David and Dia got a house together in the countrylands outside of London.
When David got the call for an audition for Doctor Who, Dia was with him every step of the way.
"I.... I... I... You have to audition to be my companion!" David stuttered and finally shouted, after he got off the phone with his agent. "You simply have to!" He pleaded. "You know that I would love nothing more, it's what we had dreamed of as kids... but I have too much work at home to do..." Dia sighed as she thought about the job she had just gotten, writing for the London Times and how being Doctor David's companion was all she had ever wanted.
"I know... but it wouldn't be the same without you..." David sighed, wrapping his best friend up in his long, thin arms.
"Yeah..." Dia whispered and returned his hug. "But I'll be there for you. Whenever you need me, all you have to do it call." She faked a smile.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." David said, smiling sadly.

She sighed softly as she thought about that day. "Attention: Flight 1011 has just landed at the gate." a voice from the celing announced. Her stomach did a tiny flip. Her best friend was finally here.
Slowly but surely, people began to enter the terminal. She excitedly scanned through the small amount of people, and found her tall, lanky David towering over most of them. He looked up, saw her and ran straight for her.
When he reached her, he picked her up and spun her around, giving her the world's biggest hug. "I missed you so so much!" He shouted a bit louder than he intended, as people looked at the two and smiled.
"I missed you too, Davey. Things have been too quiet without you." Dia smiled and hugged him tighter.
He kissed her on the head and hurried over to grab his luggage from the claim.
"Shall we go home?" He asked as Dia looked at his luggage and giggled. She had let him borrow her little black backpack that had strawberries printed all over it when he left.
"Gladly. I can't believe you still have that..." She smiled.
"I would never get rid of it. It was one of the few things I had to remind me of my true companion when I was away. It wasn't the same without you, Dee. It really wasn't..." David said, his brown eyes looking serious and slightly sad. Dia took his hand. "It was't the same without you here, David." She said.
"So, home?" She asked, so that she could attempt to clear the lump that was beginning to form in her throat.
"Home it is." David nodded in agreement.
The ride home from the airport was a comfortable silence. David reached over and held Dia's hand as she drove them through the London streets. She smiled and squeezed it gently.
Breaking the silence, David sighed. "Dia, we need to talk." David said, his face suddenly becoming serious.
Her heart skipped a beat, the bad way. She hated when David got serious, it was never a good thing.
"Yes?" She said, glancing at him then back to the road, and back again.
"I can't do this..." He said quietly.
Her heart stopped again.
"Do... what....?" She asked, scared.
"This," He squeezed her hand.
"The separation, the hour long phone calls, when I would rather have you right there with me, by my side. I can't do the distance thing. I get so bloody lonely, and you're all I can think about. I wonder how you handle the house by yourself, I wonder if Mum's driven you crazy yet..." He smiles and she laughs quietly.
"And... you're going to think I'm crazy, shortly..." he said, darkness in his eyes.
She pulled into the driveway of their house. "I already do, love." She turned her car off and faced David, never letting go of his hand.
She studied his face. Something was different... He looked exhausted. He didn't have the playful and energetic exuberance that he usually beared.
He faked a smile and looked down, not brave enough to look her in the eyes.
"But I couldn't sleep while I was gone." He said softly.
"Why, David? Did you not enjoy the set?" She asked, concerned.
"No, I loved it. I love being the Doctor. It's everything I wanted.... Almost...." He said, looking at the dirty laces of his worn red Chucks.
"Almost?" Dia asked, feeling that she knew what he was going to say.
"I laid awake at night, tossing and turning because I kept having the same dream every time I closed my eyes... I kept dreaming that you were with some other guy. I dreamt that you had fallen for some guy that wasn't me, and I couldn't bear the thought of it, Dia. I just couldn't..." David said, softly shaking. He let out a sigh.
"Davey... There's no other guy. There's never been another guy. There will never be another guy, truthfully. I've been in love with you since we were kids..." Dia said, lifting his chin to make him look at her.
A small smile appeared on his face.
"Really, Sarah Jane?" He asked.
"Really, Doctor." She smiled.
"I love you. So much." He reached over and wrapped his arms around her, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
"I love you too. So much." She said returning the hug.

The got out of the car, and went inside the house.
"Are you hungry, love?" Dia asked David.
"Starving. But I'm exhausted as well. Since I have you back... can we go take a nap?" David asked, looking like a sheepish child.
Dia laughed.
"Whatever you want, my love." She replied. He walked over and picked her up bridal style and carried her to was was his bedroom. Before he laid her down, he looked at her.
"I have a pretty serious question, love." He said.
"And what might that be?" Dia asked getting nervous again.
"Come to back to Wales with me... We can get a place there together, not far from set." David said sleepily.
"Are you sure?" Dia asked, not wanting to interfere with his work.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." She said, suddenly not caring if she had to work further away from home. If it meant she had her David with her, she would do whatever.
They laid down in bed and he wrapped his arms around her waist.
"I love you, my brilliant companion." He said kissing her ear softly.
"I love you too, my Doctor." she whispered as they quickly fell asleep.
