Night Walkers

Ten - Gathering

Violets roar has everyone stuck to their seats, he pulls me back behind him as I stick close to him. Not feeling safe after their decision.

"I need her protected, while I hunt down and kill Claudius." Everyone breaks out in a yelling fit about either how "it will start a war!" Or "kill him first!" I couldn't help but grab onto his shirt from behind.

"Everyone enough!" King William growls out, his royal blood line seeping through his lips. Silencing everyone in the room within seconds. "Macarius you can't kill another vampire King without cause." My body freezes at King Williams words, like a cold breeze settling in on your neck in the pitch dark night. Shivers coating your skin like a blanket.

"Another...?" My voice a small whisper thinking only I can hear myself mumble, oh how I was wrong.

"She doesn't know does she?" One of the Alphas voices out his concern, I couldn't help but back away from Violet. All this time he told me I was safe with him and yet he killed a vampire King before. I've only witnessed a small dose of anger from him, if he gets his strength from that... he's the most powerful beast I know.

"She doesn't need to know." And just like that I feel a blade slip into my back as my trust is thinning being with him. Feeling close but only knowing so little about him, have I thought about him wrong the entire time I've met him? Even after a few days I've never felt such betrayal in my life. Coming from the one who had her pack turn on her in seconds.

"Well if she's his mate then he will stop at nothing, even if it costs him a war, he will get to her. Along with all the other members of the council." I was just thankful that the ring on King Williams left hand had been there before he met me. Or else I'm sure he'd be another male I would have to fend off, possibly he could be just as greedy as the other men and just want the heir.

"Break the bond." We all turn are heads towards the doors, where a women's voice carries its way throughout the room. Catching everyone's attention.

Well I'll be dammed, it's Zaire.

"Excuse me? Who are you?" Another Alpha speaks with a thick Texan accent, making Zaire smile showing off more wrinkles on her aged face. That continues to be caked in wild makeup.

"I am Zaire, a good friend of the moon," she winks over at me and hobbles over to the side of the room, around me and Violet. "I am also one of the most powerful witches you will ever lay your eyes on." Her voice doesn't falter as she makes it quite clear who has the floor in the room.

"Well, Zaire. What do you mean break the bond?" King William says placing his hands on either side of him on the table. Leaning down in a submissive way to show respect to the lady.

"I've done my research, if River completes the mating bond with someone of her choosing then the mate pull will snap between her and the other council members." I feel Violet move closer to me and just like that I feel the bond of trust forming again, and I know somewhere deep down he'll break it again.

Everyone seems to nod their head in agreement and then an Alpha who has had their head down the entire time stands, meeting my eyes. I gasp at the familiar face.

"James?" I speak tilting my head to the side as he makes himself clear, if he has the Alphas position something terrible must have happened while I was gone.

"She's the reason half of my pack is dead. She deserves whatever is coming for her." His face is cold as stone, he looked like hell.

"James what happened?" I ask walking closer to the long head table everyone had gathered around.

He just glares knives at me and walks out of the room, I try to go after him but Violet grabs my arm and pulls be back close to him. I look him in the eyes and for a first time his eyes soften, before becoming stone again and looking back at the Alphas.
