Have you ever been so mesmerized by reality, that you thought you were dreaming?
Bzzzt! Bzzzt! Bzzzt!
Jamie was startled awake by the furious buzzing of her phone attached to a charger sitting on the bed frame.
Bzzzt! Bzzzt!
Agitated, Jamie slung her arm over the side of the bed and felt around for the phone. After two failed attempts and two more buzzes, she got her fingers around the device and held it up to her face and disabled the alarm. It then read:
5:31 AM
Friday, May 26th
Immediately, Jamie knew what day it was.
Oh my gosh, she thought, it's my last day. Of senior year. I never thought this day would come. A light grin extended across her face, because like anyone else 17 years old, high school was the bane of her entire existence. Her phone buzzed again, but only once this time. she looked at the screen, it showed a text message from a friend of hers, Frankie, but if you ask Jamie, she wishes to be much more than friends.
"Good morning Jay :)"
Jamie didn't open it yet because she didn't want to seem too needy. At least, that's what she'd tell you. Jamie rolled out of bed and walked barefoot on the cold hardwood floors to her light switch and flicked it on. She shielded her eyes from the horribly bright ceiling fan lights and began the journey to the bathroom door. Jamie twisted the metal handle and creaked the door open, revealing her sink and decorated mirror to the right and her bathtub to the left. The mirror had pink and blue flowers drawn along the edge in decorative marker and a sticker reading hello beautiful along the bottom. Jamie closed the door and pushed the button to lock the door from the inside. She looked back into the mirror and began picking through her hair; short, curly and brown. She only now realized how shiny it was! She stretched a couple curls straight down and watched them spring back into place. Jamie always loved that. She leaned in close to the mirror to examine her face. Her complexion was extremely clear for a teenager her age, especially considering how badly her parents dealt with acne as teens; however, Jamie's defining feature were her eyes. Her eyes are icy blue on the outer iris and fade into white until the black pupil. They were gorgeous and they unintentionally fit well with her last name Skye, because that's what they looked like. Jamie then lowered her vision slightly and began making different poses with her lusciously pink lips that fit her sun kissed skin. She did live in California, after all. She leaned out finally and crossed her arms, ready to lift up the spaghetti tank top she slept in. she took it off rather quickly and dropped it to the floor. She then turned the dial on the shower all the way to the hottest setting and watched the steam rise up from the reflection in the mirror. Lastly, she slipped her thumbs into the waist of the running shorts she slept in and slipped them to the floor, stepped out of its leg holes and into the water. Jamie already felt her muscles relaxing in the sauna-like shower. she closed her eyes and leaned her head backwards into the water, soaking up her hair. How will my last day go? Her mind began to wander again. I wonder if I'll see Frankie ever again after today. What about Kate? Or Jasmine? Or Austin? Is Austin even gonna show up today that kid is never in school. Oh! what abo-
A sharp knocking interrupted her train of thought. "Jamie, sweetie, it's a big day! but don't forget who pays the water bill!" Her mom called from the other side of the door. Jamie looked just like her mother, Maggie, as far as facial structure, however, Maggie has straight, long, beautiful hair, and deep, brown eyes instead. She was the sweetest lady on the planet and knew how to please nearly everybody. She keeps her cool in all situations and will listen to all of your problems. Maggie claimed Jamie gets the curly hair from her dad and the blue eyes from a mutation but her dad thinks she gets her eyes from her grandpa. Speaking of her father, Jonny, who by now would have left for work for the day, is a very tall and large man. He looks very intimidating with a powerful jaw and muscular physique at first glance, but despite the stereotypes, talking to him shows just how intelligent and thought provoking he really is. These parents simply match up so well.
"Sorry mom!" Jamie replied. She squeaked the dial on the shower to the off position after she washed herself clean of the contaminations she may have carried while asleep. She stepped out of the bath onto the tile and wrapped the nearest towel over her upper breast and the towel dangled down to just above her knees. The mirror was now fogged up with steam so Jamie turned on the bathroom fan. she also unlocked and opened her bathroom door to air it out. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted her moms legs rummaging through her closet.
"Mom. What are you doing?"
"Ohh, i'm just picking my daughter a 'final flashy' outfit! I hope you don't mind" Maggie replied.
Jamie chuckled again and said, "Sure mom. Thanks" and returned her sight to the now-clear mirror. Jamie reached for the blow dryer underneath her sink and plugged it into the the wall. She set the hair dryer to the hottest setting and began to remove the water from her curls. Her mom stood in the door with a big, happy, mom
smile on her face, holding up a cherry red dress wrapped across the middle with a black waist band and black pumps. Jamie smiled back in approval and her mom laid it out on Jamie's bed and shouted over the blow dryer, "I'm going to start breakfast now! your favorite bacon and egg english muffin sandwich coming up soon!"
Jamie shouted back, "Mom, you're the best!" and Maggie left the room, closing the door behind her.
Jamie finished fixing up her hair minutes later and strolled over to her bedside. She checked her phone again.
6:23 AM
Text from Jasmine at 6:19:
"HEY BFF ITS OUR LAST DAY THEN WE OUT THIS BITCH"
Jamie replied: "YAS. NOBODY CAN STOP OUR TAG TEAM"
Text from Frankie at 5:36
Jamie decided now was a good time to respond with: "Goooood morning Franklin ;). I trust you slept well?"
she set her phone back down on the bed and unwrapped her towel to the floor.
She walked to her dresser and pulled out matching black underwear and put it on. she held up the dress her mom had set down and pulled it over her head. Tightened the black band to exaggerate her hourglass figure and then slipped on her pumps. she took one last look the in the mirror and she was absolutely stunning, even before the makeup. She flicked off the light and fan of the bathroom, walked back to her bedside, scooped up her phone and pulled the charger from the wall, and lastly threw the charger into her black backpack and slung it over her shoulder, turning off the light on the way downstairs.
