Is seeing truly believing?
Jamie absolutely adored being the driver of a car. It made her feel as if she were the queen for that instance. She ruled the land of BMW defined by a two-ton majestic automobile. She liked to imagine herself as a different mythical creature each day, arriving to claim bounty to a parking spot at Palm High School. She particularly liked being a beautiful dragon from the north, or a gallant pegasus from the south, even a night griffin from the west; but her favorite will always be the phoenix from the east. Jamie always felt the phoenix best represented her; having a heart of gold and burning passion for her hobbies, typically consisting of writing short stories or collecting comics or playing video games with her dad. Jamie adores her family and friends and would most certainly give anything to protect them.
Jamie sat the red light to turn into school, thinking about all the times she made this drive and how she'd never have to do this again; while a song called "Break Up Every Night" by The Chainsmokers played quietly in the background. It's just so hard to believe how far i've come, Jamie thought. All these years and all these days for this moment. The moment of truth I suppose.
The light turned green and Jamie rounded the turn into school parking. She saw so many familiar faces hanging out in their groups hovering around cars, chatting and hugging, laughing and carrying on, the couples kissing. Everyone looked so happy. Why wouldn't they be? Jamie thought again, Summer is literally right around the corner, this is California. Then she spotted him.
Frankie was standing with his back to Jamie and one arm hanging over his open drivers door and the other pointing to a friend while he laughed, probably reminiscing about the good times. Jamie noticed the parking spot next to him was free!
Now or never! I can do this! She thought. Jamie sped up to catch the spot when a huge truck came zooming from the other end of the row and zipped into that spot. Jamie immediately recognized this truck. it's blue and black stripes gave it away as Bradley Harrison's truck, which wouldn't have been a problem if Bradley's sister, Meredith, wasn't in the passengers side. Jamie immediately knew what was going on. That sly bitch! she thought. She's too much of a ho for Frankie anyway. I'll be fine.
Jamie slid into the parking spot next to Bradley and pulled the keys from the ignition and threw them in her backpack in the passengers side and slung the bag over her right shoulder. Jamie saw Bradley sitting in the truck and then the passenger door open through the windows. Jamie followed and quickly stepped behind Bradley's truck. She peered from behind the truck to find Meredith hanging on to Frankie's shoulders from behind. Jamie decided to spring into action before the bell rang.
"Hey Frankie!" she called. He turned his head and smiled brightly and said "Hi ya Jay!" Jamie began walking towards him and he had already turned back to talking to the other friend and she caught Meredith's eye but Jamie gave her a fake smile and Meredith obviously gave one back. "Hey Frank." Meredith began, "When are you taking me out again?"
Oh please bitch, don't try to make me jealous i'm not stupid, Jamie thought.
"What do you mean 'again,' Meredith? we've never been out." Frankie responded.
"Frank don't play dumb, just tell me when."
"Never, Meredith. you're not really my type." Frank chuckled and turned to Jamie.
"Hey why don't you come be social with your friends?"
Oh. My. Gosh. Jamie thought. Did he just ask me to come talk to him. "Okay Frankie!" she smiled so brightly and quickly walked over next to him. "What's your plan for the summer?" He asked nicely.
"I'm not so sure yet. I wanna get tanned a lot and maybe I'll get a summer job. Who knows. maybe I'll even get a tattoo. Maybe I'll dye my hair a new color or just grow it out. So at least I've got my options." Jamie sounded so enthusiastic right now.
"Honestly, I could totally see you with pink hair and a sleeve working at Starbucks." They both giggled at that while Meredith let go of his shoulders started marching off. "What's her problem?" asked Frankie.
"No idea. Hey do you really think I could pull off a sleeve and pink hair?" Jamie responded
"Hell yeah!" He said, "are you kidding, you'd probably be like the hottest girl of all time with that!"
Oh my god oh my god oh my god. He just called me hot! Jamie got flustered and said "Well maybe I can take you on a journey and you can see my transformation first hand"
"We'll have to see" Frankie winked. "But right now, lets go to class."
