"Hello?" Stella asked, her voice hoarse as she answered the phone.
"Hi, uh, it's Clay Jensen," the voice on the other line said. She could tell he had been crying too.
"What do you want, Jensen?" Stella sighed, annoyed. She just wanted to lay back down and cry herself to sleep.
"I didn't think you were going to come in to school today, so I thought I would call you to tell you that Hannah Baker killed herself last night," Clay said quietly.
"Hannah? She was your girl, right?" Stella asked slowly, her already broken heart breaking for Clay.
"No-- she wasn't," Clay said quickly.
"Oh-- Jeff said she was or at least that she was going to be," Stella said quietly.
"I'm really sorry about Jeff, Stella," Clay said softly.
"And I'm really sorry about Hannah, Clay," Stella sighed, hanging up the phone, closing her eyes as the tears streamed down her face. She picked up the photographs she had strewn all over her bed, remembering each memory that came with them.
"I miss you, baby," Stella said quietly as she held his picture close to her chest.

"I miss you, baby," Jeff sighed over the phone.
"Jeff, I've been gone for like an hour," Stella scoffed, laughing gently.
"But I still miss you," Jeff sighed.
"You're pathetic. But pathetic looks cute on you," Stella teased.
"As long as I get to be pathetic for you then I'm alright," Jeff said, chuckling.
"You sure are slick, aren't you?" Stella scoffed.
"That's why you love me," Jeff teased.
"Believe me, there are way more reasons that I love you, Jeff Atkins," Stella sighed.
"You're adorable," Jeff scoffed.
"I know," Stella sighed teasingly.
"Hey, when are you starting your tutoring thing?" Stella asked quickly.
"Next week. They've got me paired up with Clay Jensen," Jeff said.
