My phone ringing woke me up.  The sun was barely peeping through my bedroom window, so I knew it must be pretty early in the morning. I grabbed my phone and saw that it was Randi calling.

"Hello?" I croaked out, still half asleep.

"Oh my God!  My mom doesn't have anyone to watch me," she started, "She asked that I call and see if your grandma could watch me today.  Your grandma is watching you, right?" she asked.

"Actually, I have something interesting to tell you!" I hadn't had a chance to tell her about Chloe. "One of my mom's old friends showed up and she's actually been watching me," I informed her.

"No way!! Who?!"

"Her best friend who was also her foster sister," I told her, "Hang on, I will go get my dad and see if it's okay. You know there's a strong possibility the answer will be no," I paused, "Unless you put your mom on the phone to ask," I laughed.

"Um, yea I can definitely do that. My mom is desperate, she doesn't want to leave me alone without adult supervision after what happened the other day," she explained.

"Okay, hang on. I'm sure he's getting ready for work," I hopped out of the bed and headed down the hall to my dad's room.

"Dad?" I said, opening his bedroom door. He was already dressed, sitting on the bed to lace up his shoes.

"What are you doing up so early?" He asked.

I shoved the phone in his face, "Here, Randi's mom needs to talk to you.

He grabbed the phone from my hand, "Hello?.....Oh, hi.......uh, yes......I understand, but do you really think that is a good-" I could hear Randi's mom rattling away, "Okay, sure.  I am about to leave, but Chloe, Gracie's aunt will be here, I am sure she won't mind at all. Okay, no problem, bye," he said, handing me the phone back.

"Well?" I asked already knowing the answer.

"Gracie, I swear to God, if you two cause Chloe any trouble or get into any trouble, I will ground you so long that your grand kids will be born grounded," he said to me with a stern tone.

"Okay, dad, I promise," that of course would be another promise broken.

Dad was already gone by the time Randi's mom pulled into the driveway to drop off Randi.  Her mom didn't get out of the car.  Randi came in with a big grin on her face.

"You gotta tell me everything! I'm so surprised my mom and your dad are letting us be around each other!!" She beamed.

"Okay, but you gotta lower your voice.  Chloe usually sleeps until about noon," I told her, "Come on," I waved, leading her to my bedroom.

We sat down on my bed and she stared at me, anxiously waiting for me to tell her everything.

"Okay, so the other day," I smiled, I knew she would be just as excited as me once I told her about Chloe and being able to go through the box. "I came home and my dad was going on and on about how my grandma was going to have to watch me. And then there was a knock on the door. Oh my God, Randi, wait until you meet Chloe, she is pure awesomeness!! You're gonna love her! I love her! I had no idea she even existed!" I went on and on about how cool Chloe is and then I told her about the box.

"You remember me telling you about the box my dad keeps that has a lotta of my mom's stuff in it?" I asked her.

"Uh huh. Did you finally get brave enough to look through it without your dad being around?"

"Well kinda....he came home as I had it out about to open it and got on to me. I went into my room and fell asleep but then Chloe came in and told me to come back out to the kitchen. And my dad talked to me and apologized and he let me explore it!!" Her face lit up.
