millie
i stood stiff as a board in front of the bush. "so, when were you planning on telling me this, sadie?"

"i don't know, senior year?" she said, shrugging. finn turned to face me, and was gasping from shock.

"well, millie," maddie said, as i opened my mouth to speak. "when were you guys planning on telling us?"

"soon actually," finn said, stepping in. we both knew that was a complete and utter lie, but they didn't.

"i asked millie." maddie said to finn angrily, crossing her arms. suddenly, finn's phone beeped uncontrollably.

"oh," he stated, pulling his phone out of his pocket. "it's 1:30. millie, lunch is in thirty minutes!"

we frantically called the uber driver, otherwise known as pedro. "bye lovebirds!" maddie yelled as we dashed away.

the uber pulled up and we hopped in the backseat. we had 15 minutes. "pedro, i'll pay you ten bucks extra to speed up ten miles." finn said, breathing heavily.

"nah, it's on me, man." pedro said, slamming the gas pedal. i looked at finn confused.

"why are you so obsessed with being late for lunch?" i asked, brushing my hand against his.

"my mom will kill me, and probably think i murdered you." he said, glancing away from me. that was a scary thought.

"you know..." i said, looking down at the floor of the car. "you're better than your mom."

he rolled his eyes. "well, duh."

"did you ever really think though?" i said, grabbing his hand that was flat on the seat. "that maybe, somebody thought your mom was better?"

"why are we talking about this? this is pointless." finn said, leaning back further in the seat.

"because people thought you were better than me. now you think i'm better than yourself." i said, brushing his arm.

"why are you thinking so deeply, millie? we just need to go to lunch." he said, ignoring what i said, and taking my hand off his arm.

"why are you acting like this?" i asked, changing my expression from happy to confused.

"nothing," he said, clenching his teeth.

"but finn-" he cut me off, covering my mouth.

"we're far too young to die, millie. you're wasting every second we have with these deep thoughts." he said, taking a pause. "i really like you, i do."

pedro glanced back. "you guys," he said, smiling. "you're so cute. i love it!" i smiled at pedro.

"we just had the smallest argument, and now we're here." i said to finn, tapping the window.

"and we're still four minutes early!"
