POV: CHARLES
I was dressed in a white tux lined in gold with a light blue tie. These are the selection colors. I took one last look in the mirror and ran down stairs. My father matched me. My mom looked gorgeous. She wore a white short dress with a gold sash. We took our seats. Today was the report where I would read the names of the selected. I was really nervous. My dad looked at me. "Don't worry son. I did the same thing and look how happy I am," he said as he patted my shoulder. I smiled weakly back. My mom gave me a big encouraging smile. I took a deep breath. My dad gave a rushed update, then it was on to me. I stood up and walked to the microphone. "Hello. If you're anything like me you are very excited to hear who will be in the selection. If you're child's name gets drawn you will get a phone call right after the report. Please make sure no one calls you. If you know someone who got drawn, don't call them until at least ten minutes after. We will start by drawing out of the bowl with the already selected names," I finished. I walked over ,and I reached into the bowl filled with all the earlier selected. "From Angeles, Annabella Kriss Jones," I said aloud. I looked at the picture on the screen to see the stereotypical girl in the selection. Nice shirt, brown hair, inch of makeup. I can't wait to meet her and watch as she deals with no dates but being in for a long time. Girls like her get every guy they want, so I'm just not going to notice her. I continued picking the names. Every girls was different, yet simple. It was going to be a tough competition. I looked at my father he was smiling ear to ear. My mother on the other hand would probably fly up and hit the ceiling if it weren't for her extra effort.
Later that night at dinner.
"So, do you have your eyes on someone yet?" my father asked excitedly. I smiled at him. "You will have to find out while the country does," I replied with a smirk. My mother and father looked immediately saddened. "Don't worry, I'll give you a little more detail," I replied with a laugh. They calmed down ,but still continued in silence. We didn't have much to talk about since we live and work together.
The room was dark and cold, I look to my side to see the girl with inches of makeup on. "Hold on honey, I need more makeup," she said from across the room. I looked for a door but there was none. Her makeup was rubbed off and underneath was a monster. She launched at me .
I woke up. Ah, talk about nervous. Change of plans, I'm kicking her out as soon as I meet her. I got in some clothes other than pj's because clearly, I wasn't going to sleep the rest of the night. I walked outside and sat on the ground. From this moment on my life would never be the same.
