I bust through the doors, snot running down my face and tears making my vision blurry. The aces and pains I had from trying to catch up to the ambulance made it hard for me to get to the front desk. My sobs were making my speech harder on me but I finally collected myself before I spoke to the nurse.

"I need t see him. I need to see him now and make sure he is ok. He is just so little and I cannot leave him by himself," I finally get out to the nurse.

"If you are talking about Nicholas Josh Hernandez then he is in surgery as we speak. His injuries were horrible and he needs surgery in order to have a chance to survive," she explains she walks around the desk to hold me tight.

"He is my little brother and I didn't protect him like I should have. He protected me and when he needed me the most I couldn't help him. What can I do?"

"For now stay here and pray. That is all you can do for now."

I sat there sobbing into her arms until my mom and the rest of the team arrives. As we wait for news about my brother I fall asleep in my moms arms. Puffy eyes, running nose making it look like I am a little girl who cannot control their cries. It took hours before the doctor came out wit news.

"He will survive and make a full recovery. Right now he is in ICU for the night. You can visit him in the morning. Until then I suggest you all go home and get some rest as well," He tells us all.

I end up going home with my mother and was out on her couch before she could even say anything. I had a long day and really needed the sleep. She covers me with a blanket, then kisses my forehead before she went to bed herself.

The next morning I made coffee and breakfast before she was even up. Once I was done making and eating, I left the house to check up on my brother. When I got there he was wide awake talking to Raven and Mark. His laughter brightens up the room as I walk in.

"Hey sis. How are you?" he asks.

"Better knowing you will be fine. I am so sorry bud. I should have been there for you," I say as I was up to him and squeeze the life out of him.

"It's ok. You did not know so do not beat yourself up for it. You did what you had to and now you need to rest."

"You  know I will try my best to do so."

We all start talking about the most random shit ever until he falls asleep. He was out so hard, he looked like a baby. I walked out determined to find her so we did not have to deal with her any longer.

The first place I went was ti her favorite coffee shop and followed her around town until she was at home alone. I broke in silently hoping to catch her off guard. As the door swings she throws a pan and I ducked. To me, this meant war.

I tackled her to the floor and threw a few punches then landed on the floor with her onto. Once she hit me I blacked out. Next thing I know she is on the floor bruised up and bleeding as I hold my weapon pointed at her. Randomly she starts laughing and rolls around to where I can see her face.

"You would not shoot me. You cannot shoot me. You need to know about your mother and brother," she says.

"Tell me now or I will shoot you," I say as tears start running down my face.

"HAHAHA! You wouldn't dare you little brat."

*BANG* *screams of pain*

"Now tell me."

"All right. The reason why your brother was born later than he should have been is because your mother never died. Well I never died. I did not want to hurt you at all. It took me until you escaped to realize who you were and that your brother left me to be with you. He truly loves you and wants to protect you. His father was one of the men you arrested," she explains to me as sirens get closer to where we are at.

All I could do was just stand there with my weapon pointed at her. The tears kept coming but came faster. Nose running like crazy as I get worse. My adopted mother comes in with the team and they arrest her after I put my weapon down. I fell to my knees crying so hard I couldn't see. I then passed out and was taken to the hospital.

Hours later I wake up with cold sweats, shaking hands, shortened breath and pale skin. My dream was horrific. I saw the fight between us and felt it all as well. My adopted mother, Avery, runs in with the doctor. I explained it all to them and they calmed down.

"Is she really my mother?" I ask the doctor.

"Yes, yes she is," she says to me.

I curl up and cry in Avery's arms. It hurt to know she left me without thinking twice about it. I grew up thinking she was dead.

"Once she recovers, she is going to jail for life. No bail," Avery tells me.

"Good. I do not need nor want her in my life an my brothers life. Will you adopt him as well mom?" I ask.

"I already sent in the papers for it," she responds. "Surprised you still call me mom."

"Well you are my mom. You raised me didn't you?"

"HAHA!! Yes I did."

                                                         -----------------------------------------------

Months later we went to court, not to testify (did that last week) but for my brothers adoption. I really hoped they would let Avery adopt him. We need each other more than ever right now.

"I approve of the adoption. It is official. Congrats Avery," the judge says.

We all celebrate and head home as a family to get settled in. All day we unpacked his stuff as we danced and celebrated. My family felt complete for the first time in years.
