A month has passed since Tori started teaching at the school, and I still wasn't used to it. It was just too weird. My pre-cal teacher was my mate. I was dating my math teacher. No matter how phrased it still sounded bad.
However, I had to admit that I did get some pleasure out of the whole situation. Making Mr. Warren jealous was indeed one of them. I loved how his hazel eyes seemed to blaze under the dim light; how tight he would clench his jaw, showing strong cheek bones; how his aura would instantly fluctuate from and to darkness, illustrating just how annoyed he was... I loved it.
"You are doing it on purpose," he told me one day after class ended. I feigned ignorance. "Do you enjoy making me jealous?"
"Actually yes. I do."
"Oh? Is that so." Not liking his coaxing tone nor the dark smile on his face I slowly backpedaled. I didn't speak until there were at least four desks between us.
"Yes. That is so."
He watched me intently. So intently that I found myself practically squirming under his gaze.
Don't say anything else Tomari. Don't say anything else Tomari. "You haven't really spoken to me since you started your new job. I've had to deal with Devlyn. This was my way of getting back at you for that." Not that I had a problem with the wolf. I just missed my mate.
That's when a dark smirk became a full blown evil smile, and I mentally kicked myself. Why can't you just shut up, Tomari? Now you've gone and screwed yourself over.
"Tori," I began. "Let's be reasonable." He took a step forward. "Tori, what are you doing?" Another step. "To-"
Wshhh.
"Tori?"
He had disappeared before my very eyes. So quickly that I finally grasped the true meaning of the phrase '...in a blink of an eye.'
"Tori?" I tried again.
No answer.
Where could he have possibly gone? Had I really gone too far this time? But what could I have possibly have done to set him off? And, most of all, since when could he disappear like that without the use of shadows?
"Tori?"
That's when I felt him appear at my back, his arms wrapped tightly around me. I instantly relaxed at the feel of him; heard him breathe airily in my ear before that melodic voice finally sounded.
"Miss me?"
I groaned in response.
"Is that a no?"
"You've been holding out on me," I all but grounded out through clenched teeth. "Since when could you disappear like that? There are no shadows here."
"I am ranked number one in my clan for a reason Mistress," He replied. I closed my eyes and leaned backward into the warmth of his body. "Shadows are everywhere so I do not specifically need physical ones to disappear-"
"Because there are shadows within the mind, right?" I finished for him, and felt him nod against me.
"Exactly."
I felt my mate slowly dislodge himself from me. He picked me up and sat me on a nearby desk; spreading my legs so that he could stand between them, resting the palm of his hands on either of my knees.
