The hot, Texas wind blew in Earl's face.
His grey colored hat fell off his head.
"Dang it!", he uttered in his Southern drawl. He picked it up with his right hand. He saw Chief Avery Westhoof, shake his head.
"Bad day, Earl. The spirits are restless".
"Maybe the Native Americans are crazy when you told me about the Zombies". Earl's long, black colored hair glistened in the wind.
"Our people are not all crazy. The Reservations are overrun by politicians who think we can integrate with the white man".
"And now?".
"We tell them about the evil spirits. And they laugh at our faces".
"Well, they're not into ghosts, demons, vampires, people who saw Heaven while they suffered near death experiences, or see the Undead".
"Or UFO's, and aliens".
"Or Crop Circles".
"Or Mother ships in the woods at night".
"Exactly! What I need is to be on the straight and narrow. No beer. Amy and the kids are my life; my world; my future...".
"And now this mania thing is ruining everything?".
"The word mania is sinister. If anyone becomes afflicted, then we must kill him...or her. If one of our people suffers, we must deal with it in our way".
And, for Earl, that meant more trouble.
~~~
Charles Ryter was writing a book on his computer when the sounds of screaming disturbed his thoughts. He adjusted his glasses.
"Mom! Did you hear that?".
"Yes. I'm calling 911".
"Someone's being stabbed to death". She grabbed her I-phone 5. It was a old phone. Charles concentrated on what he needed to do...
...But he couldn't.
He pressed the SAVE button.
~~~
Outside the swirling dust caused Emmalina to choke.
She reached the gates of the barn.
"Andy, are you there?".
"I'm cleaning up the mess".
"Franks was with the Bushes".
"President Bush".
"Junior".
"Oh, the second President".
"Yeah, and his wife former First Lady Laura Bush".
"Oh, American Southern Royalty".
"Well, they're not the Kennedys".
"I never told you that".
"Don't blather".
"I'm not blathering...".
"Can I go inside?".
"Yes!".
She walked past the fences. Black colored chairs and tables were in the far, left side of the barn. Before she reached the entrance, dark shadows appeared out of nowhere.
To her surprise, she saw a man.
"Hungry!", he yelled.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!".
"Hungry!".
Nearby, she saw several branches.
Because the Zombie blocked the entrance to the barn, she was forced to fight him. She held a branch in her right hand.
"Hungry! Hungry! Hungry!".
She rammed the branch into his face.
A massive gash ripped across nose.
Blood spilled downward.
She didn't have any time to kill him.
She fled the barn.
Yet more screams were heard inside.
It was too nasty to find her boyfriend.
They killed him, she thought.
She ran back home...just as the mania spread further across America...just like the previous Zombie outbreaks two years' ago.
