ESME'S POV
TUESDAY 12th SEPTEMBER 2017
Coating my lips with a final layer of clear lip gloss, I smiled at my reflection in my pristine mirror and grabbed my bag from my bedroom floor. It was the first day of my Senior Year and I was beyond excited, I had spent all morning picking out the most perfect outfit for the day; a baby pink dress with some white flats and a white cardigan. I had allowed my hair to dry naturally which meant my normal curls cascaded past my shoulders, I barely wore make up but that day I had applied some light foundation, mascara and lip gloss.
My phone buzzed on my desk.
New Message: Jen
waiting outside. btw why tf did you not tell me that Kyle freaking Pierce was moving in next door to you?? I am beyond jealous. I'd do him any day ;)I rolled my eyes and tapped back a response.
Essie:
Yes I need a ride, but preferably not with a ball of hormones. Where's my best friend gone? xxJen:
Damn okay, see you in a min xxI rolled my eyes and shoved my phone into my bag. I had known for around a week that Rosemary High's bad boy was moving in next door to me which was mainly because I repeatedly saw him through my bedroom window and he saw me through his. "Hey Jenna," I smiled and slid into shot-gun. "First day nerves are kicking in," I smiled over at my best friend who was in the drivers seat.
"Aw, you're so cute Essie," she laughed and started up the engine. Jenna and I were very different in many ways, she had glossy dark hair that matched her dark skin, beautiful deep chocolate eyes and a smile that could win over any guy. I, on the other hand, was a simple brunette with plain brown eyes and was the least bit interested in dating or boys, I was more focused on my education.
I sighed. "I wish I was in English Literature class with you."
"Well, why can't you just ignore your parents and drop like Biology for it?" She replied as we pulled into the school parking lot. "Your passion in life is to become an author, Essie. Nobody should tell you that you cannot follow that passion," I looked over at my best friend who was focused on pulling into a tight parking space and a sigh escaped my lips as I realised she was right. My parents had insisted that I took more academic classes that would better my chance of being in a high-paid, intellectual job when I was older.
"My mother can tell me what to do and what not to do," I shrugged. "She's terrified of her children failing at life and making her look bad." I climbed out of her car and pulled my bag onto my shoulder. My mother was one of the best defence lawyers in our town and my father was the Sheriff which meant if either Spencer or myself failed, people would notice and talk.
"Hey Jen, hey Es," Wren was our next best friend and he was a lot more popular than me but if I thought about it, so was Jenna. He was six foot and played on the football team and that year he was striving for captain again, but was still unable to push my brother from the top spot. "You better tell that brother of yours to watch out today, football practise is after school and they're deciding the captain for Senior Year. This is going to be my year, you two watch me."
"Sure it is Wren, because it must just be a fluke that every single year Spencer wins over you," I chuckled at Jenna's remark because it was true, my twin brother was extremely talented with football and was batting for Captain again this year. That's because being Captain of the football team in Senior Year gets you scholarships from every College imaginable.
"Sorry, Wren, I have to be on Spence's side, he needs those scholarships," I laughed as he threw a hissy fit.
"Er, no he doesn't Miss Sheriff's Daughter, I think you guys have enough money to buy a College for him to go to," Wren rolled his eyes and I nudged him playfully. It was true that my family had a lot of money but my mom had made it very clear that she wanted him to get those scholarships. We never wanted to let her down. "What class you guys got first?" He asked as we began mindlessly wandering around the front grounds of the school.
"I have AP Law, you guys?"
"Gym," Wren replied. "You need a ride later?"
"If you're offering," I smiled.
"Well, swing by after practise and I will drive you home once we're done," he smiled and I thanked him just as the bell went. I was already right next to the block I was meant to be in and so I wandered in and walked down the halls to my classroom. The class was pretty much empty so I chose my seat right at the front of the class, at parents' evening my mother always asked my teachers where I sat and if it wasn't in "the most present part of the room" then she demanded I got moved. I learnt that Junior Year.
The rest of the class flooded in rather quickly and as this was the highest set there were only a few students and that meant I could have a whole desk to myself. "Hello Class, welcome to your Senior Year. I expect you all rested over Summer and that you have the homework that was set to you before Summer Break, please place them on your desks and I will mark them for you later on," I pulled out my sheet of paper and placed it on the desk as she came around. "Welcome back Miss Fields," she smiled.
Law dragged by painfully slow and by the end of it I was nearly dropping off to sleep at my desk, the only thing that woke me was the piercing sound of the bell. I immediately jumped out of my seat and began shoving my books into my bag, I had AP Russian History next which was on the other side of school campus and so to get there on time I basically had to sprint.
"Have a nice day everyone, I'll see you all bright and early tomorrow morning!" Miss Spring dismissed us and I hurriedly rushed from the classroom into the packed hallways, dodging students that were loitering around and not caring that they'd be ridiculously late.
I finally released myself from the hallways and decided it would be best to go the back ways as it was less crowded and so I began running around the English block and into the fields, my legs were taking me as fast as they could. That was of course until I slammed into something hard and went flying back which resulted in me landing on my butt on the wet grass, probably staining and ruining my dress. "Jesus, watch where you're going," the deep voice spoke from above me. I looked up to see none other than Kyle Pierce stood over me.
Kyle Pierce was the popular guy of our school; with light tousled hair, bright green eyes, muscles and a tattooed body. He was gorgeous and tall, he was also someone I should have never communicated with.
"I-I'm so sorry, I was in such a rush," I stood up and dusted down my dress, scrambling to pick up my books that were sprawled across the muddy grass too. "Oh shoot," I cursed before I started picking up the various books and stationary that was on the grass, just as the second bell flooded the school. "Oh shoot!" I said louder and shoved all of my items in my bag.
"Shoot? Are you like five?" He laughed at me and looked back at his two friends, Calvin Jones and George Harrold, not even bothering to help me as I dusted my bag down of mud.
"Well, I must get going," I replied nervously and started to walk around him.
"Hey, next time you run into me like that you won't get off so easily." He shouted after me, I glanced over my shoulder to see him smirking my way. "See you later, Angel," he winked.
