CHAPTER 4: Alarms and Sirens
.....
Rachelle's POV
.....Before I could get totally distant to Mr. Arouet's office, I managed to watch the doors go back. The gothic bordered doors produced a rusty swing, finishing it with the rings light bang. The titanium door shut closed, as well as my eardrums and the gears when turning and turning like a clock on reverse. The vintage door slid back, leaving no trace of me nor the scientist in it. As if the conversation is non-existent.
When the whole 'show' was finished. I turned my head on the dim hallways, still eerie, still quiet, and I think that the Arouets have no plans of lighting it up, just to scare us. And it doesn't make no sense, at all.
The whole silence of the hall made me walk slower than my usual, to come and think about a starting point. Starting point for what, Rachelle? You might ask, obviously it is for me finding out what secrets are waiting for me. The secrets regarding the past sixteen years of my existence. The secrets regarding the lies the Supremes are hiding from us, the Carricks and the Falses.
"Good morning," an angelic voice came in. I searched for it and found a Caucasian woman. The woman have this long burgundy hair, a beautifully proportioned face, drowning ocean eyes, and a perfect body covered in a classic business woman attire – Black classy jacket over a white top, paired with a black pencil skirt.
"I believe you're Miss ... Carrick?" she said with an irremovable smile in her face that's completely bothering me. I paused for a while and she played her handy bracelet that she has.
The bracelet was in a gold color, with a thick size – enough to put a mini screen on it.
And she reads, "Uh – Miss Rachelle Carrick, yes?" she asked again.
"Yes I am, Miss –"I answered while searching her name tag across her jacket.
"Yes I am, Miss Daphne" I repeated my answer when I found the tag. She smiled and handed me my baggage I brought with me.
"This way Miss," Miss Daphne said with a surprisingly wide smile, stretching her arm in a certain direction.
At that moment, I noticed that Miss Daphne have this elegant head accessory that is somehow connected to her earpiece. It was large enough, to make myself look stupid, that I didn't noticed such beauty immediately. The head piece glowed brighter and brighter, adding up white and yellowish light on the ceiling down to the upper half of the walls.
Her headpiece looked more like a pin as long as a hand and looks more like to inches wide. It was decorated with moonstone-like-gems on a white grid underneath it. It lies on the right side of Miss Daphne's perfectly done bun.
The earpiece looked more like a half of a headphone black in color, extending from her headpiece down to her right ear.
Still we are walking down the halls. Still dark, devoured with silence and dashed with an eerie atmosphere. While walking I realized that after I got out Mr. Arouet's office, I was so psyched up. I feel like I was bound to be ready uncovering my own mystery and kick butts along the way or maybe, I am marching down to my own death. Oh no Rachelle, pushing that thought away is a better idea. I shook my head lightly and go back with myself walking and my mind blank
...
"You should get in and take a rest Miss Carrick," Miss Daphne said with a reassuring smile. She makes me feel that we have a sisterly connection with that, yet it is obviously exaggerating.
"Thank you" I replied.
Before I could get a step inside the room I said "Call me Rachelle the next time we meet" It's weird for a seventeen year old girl like me to have that kind of - I don't know - address? She nods at my offer and walked away.
I finally stepped in, carefully closing the door and embracing the room's amazing ambiance. When I walked in and slumped at the couch, with my bags on the left side of me, peace of mind seemed to take over.
Red. Flashing, spinning, blaring and yes - very alarming. As soon as the sirens boomed, glass walls were covered with metallic ones. Letting not even the tiniest bit of sunlight to past through, filling the room with red light and us, the Falses, to panic.
Panicking made me impossibly out of control.
"Wraghhhh!!!" I let out a frustrated shriek, making the people around me to go more nuts.
Many of them rushed inside their rooms, the others staying on their seats and covering their ears out of frustration. Some let out horrified shrieks. Others do breathing exercises. as the chaos goes louder and louder, my fists start to unnerve. I feel like I wanted to punch some one or something, to at least drop off some anxiety.
"Five," a lady voice burst out the speakers together with a startling honk.
"Four," the kids were crying, hugging the moms and dad tightly, but I am here sitting frustratingly covering my whole head.
"Three," Falses who recently did their breathing practices are slowly picking up their normal breathing pace.
"Two," My vision begins to blur and my head spins. My vision darkens every time the sirens flash red and out. I got a grip on the right side of the couch and my freehand - drawing circles on the sides of my head.
"One," The Metallic wall rolled up the glass walls, setting sunlight free. I loosen my grip and took a sigh of relief. I can feel a faint smile on my lips and darkness took over me.
The last thing that I felt was a warm embrace.
