Philipia had just loaded the dishwasher when the doorbell rang.

"Coming!" She called. The same Italian tilt in her voice that Ivory had.

She wiped her hand on a kitchen towel and went to open the door for whoever was coming to see her at half-past eight in the night.

"Ivory!" She greeted embracing her niece.

"Hey aunty" Ivory said hugging her aunt back.

"Come in dear. You're on time. I just made my signature dish."

Ivory walked in. She removed her coat and shoes in the hallway and entered the kitchen.

Benito gurgled at her sight and broke into his billionaire toothless smile. That smile could take all the love in your heart.

"Benny" Ivory cooed as she lifted him out of his high chair.

Tiboo meowed from where he sat lazily eating his cat crackers.

"Hello to you too" Ivory said in his direction. She turned back to Ben. "And how's my boooootiful boy?" She cooed again.

Ben reached for the diamond studs that were at the point where her left eyebrow stopped. Ivory laughed and moved back. The little boy tilted his head curiously to the side and reached for it again. Again, she moved back.

Philipia looked at Ben and laughed at the boy's curiosity as she busies herself with with dishing out dinner.

Once Ivory, Benito, Philipia and Tiboo were comfortably seated in the sitting room with Ben in Phil's arms and Tiboo on an armchair purring silently, they began eating.

"I went to visit mum today" Ivory said looking past her aunt at a framed picture on the wall. She put a piece of bacon in her mouth and wasted for the taste of curry and other spices to fill her insides before going on. "I went alone."

She debated whether to continue and tell aunt Phil that there had been no fresh flowers on the grave, that the flowers had fast witted and died, that Darley hadn't been there at all. But she held back and turned to look at her aunt's face.

"I've said never to go alone" Phil's voice had softened as she placed a palm on Ivory's thigh.
"You cried?"

Ivory slowly nodded.

"I expected it." Phil replied. "I respect your privacy and all Ivory, but just don't go there alone. You really do the craziest things when you are upset dear. It just kinda of makes me nervous for you."

Ivory slowly nodded again.

She carried Benito from Phil's arms and settled her son on her laps.

"Can I sleep here tonight?" She asked suddenly.

"Does your dad know?"

"No"

"Then don't" Phil stood up and stretched. "You'll have him worrying"

"But I really can't face Darley now" Ivory said in protest.

"Why?"

"She'll remind me of my mum's death and you know how you want peace between us? I really can't stand her appearance. Not now" Ivory defended herself.

"Ivory you must understand that she's till your mother. No matter what." She began clearing away the dishes.

"Um... step mother" Ivory corrected.

"Suit yourself. Shall I ring them up?"

"No. Please" She hardly ever pleaded.

"Ivory I..."

"Please aunt Carlotta" Ivory pleaded AGAIN using her aunt's Italian name.

Phil found herself giving up "okay dear, but that's not nice."

She took the empty dishes to the kitchen and reloaded the dishwasher. After carrying Tiboo to his basket, she led Ivory to a spare room she always slept in whenever she came. Ivory was to sleep there with Benito.

*-*-*-*-*

Ivory sat with her best friend outside during lunch. They were watching their boyfriends play football.

Asanda crossed her legs and brought out a white envelope from her very cute silver shoulder bag.

"God! You got them!" Ivory whisper-shouted.

"Five dollars a pack. This is a pack." Asanda held up the envelope.

"Where'd you get them?"

"You know Brody Lee? That Chinese girl that has AP Chemistry with us?"

"Yeah"

"She sold them to me"

"But don't you think five dollars is a bit too expensive for it?"

"It's cocaine Ivory, cocaine can never be too expensive. For fuck's sake, you can't find it out there" Asanda said with a roll of her eyes.

"Does Trevor know?" Ivory asked looking at Asanda's boyfriend running after the ball.

No answer.

"You haven't told him yet, have you?"

Asanda looked away.

Ivory let a sigh escape from her lips as she looked at her best friend. It wasn't in her place to tell Trevor. He wasn't her boyfriend. It was Asanda's business whether she chose to tell him or not.

"You're fucked up Asanda" She concluded before bringing out her phone from her shoulder bag.

Asanda turned away from the crowd of students outside and began sniffing.

Ivory turned when she heard her sneezing, "Are you okay?"

"I think so" Asanda folded the envelope and put it in her bag.

"Look Asanda, I don't think you should be doing"  this." There was a note of concern in her voice.

"Yeah yeah. Save me the pep talk and just follow me to the bathroom already."

"If you're going there to sniff your stuff. I'm so  not coming. That's a NO WAY."

"Fuck you" Asanda muttered and stood up. She dusted the back of her grey ripped jeans and slung her bag over her shoulder and started walking into the building.
