Cavas Tempus

The Black Death was the spread of plague in Europe from 1346 - 1353. Though the disease lingered on decades before and after, this time period marks its entry to greater Europe. It killed an estimated 100 million people, about 1/5 of the world's population, and remains the worlds deadliest pandemic.

As plague ravaged through Europe, scores of livestock and wildlife went untouched, roaming across lands with sharp human declines. Many of them were resistant to the plague and some benefited from unchecked rodent populations, including dogs and cats...

The Story

*Craco, Italy, 1352. The plague has caused this small town of under 600 to flee or die off entirely. The ancient Greek town now stands in tact and abandoned, alone on the hillside save for the occasional traveler who does not know the town is abandoned. They quickly flee, believing an abandoned town must be a sign of scorn from God...

The only inhabitants left are cats and dogs, three groups have tried to take control of the hilltop town from each other. All come from the outlying foothills and grasslands in search of safety from the now unchecked populations of dangerous predators (eagles, wolves, bears, badgers).

The clans inhabit several buildings in the town, and a pack of feral dogs occupies just one (but still has a way out of and around the town). Rats and birds run rampart in scores, and whatever food the twolegs managed to preserve still exists. The clans and dog pack are in a constant state of unease, all attempting to take control of the town for themselves. The outlying foothills are dangerous, and only the town and the hill it is on is free of predators (aside from eagles).

War still remains a last resort, but the groups are prepared to use their numbers to fight off the others for control of this sanctuary. The plague remains a constant reminder about how fragile everything around them is, including the all-powerful twolegs...
