"You're way too happy all the time!" Beca yelled at me. "It's so frickin annoying!"
"You're too grumpy!" I shot back. "Have a heart, the world spins whether you want it to or not!"
"You failed Russian lit three times just so you could continue to be a Bella and you're telling me to move on? You're too scared to leave!" Beca yelled. "I'm so done with you."
"Are you really?" I asked. "Or are you too scared to end up alone?"
"If anyone is scared, it's you. Grow up!" Beca yelled. "Go find a job, get a life, I don't care just leave me out of it!"
"Are you seriously breaking up with me?" I asked, honestly confused.
"Duh!" Beca replied.
"Why?" I asked. I thought she loved me.
"Just leave. Seeing your face makes me want to slap you." Beca said.
I left the room confused. I had no idea what I did wrong. I wasn't even sure if I had done something wrong. I thought we were happy. I knew I was happy.
I got in the shower and thought about our fight. What made her want to dump me like that? I walked out of the shower, expecting to see Beca on my bed, ready to apologize like she always did after a fight, but she was nowhere to be found. This broke my heart. She really did want to break up.
I sat on my bed and watched Netflix until I fell asleep to the sound of How I Met Your Mother.
I woke up in tears. It all came back to me when I rolled over to cuddle with Beca, who was nowhere to be found. She was serious. She hated me.
"Chloe! Wake up! They're having a sale at-oh my God, what happened to you?" Jessica came running into my bedroom. "Are you okay?"
"No." I broke down crying. "Beca dumped me."
"Chloe, calm down." Jessica said. "No one ever gets married to their college partner."
"Really?" I asked. So it was all fake? Everything I felt was fake?
"Yeah." Jessica said. "No need to get worked up about something that never would have happened. How about we got to the sale at Vera Bradley? I need a new purse!"
"Um, okay." I said. Jessica was obsessed with Vera Bradley and I didn't want to hold her back just because I was upset. Beca may have hated me, but no matter how much she hurt me, I could never hate her and I hated that.
"Hey Jess, can I come?" Ashley asked. Jessica never went anywhere without Ashely, but I could sense their friendship was falling apart and Jessica wanted to spend more time with me.
"If you want." Jessica said plainly.
"I'll be right out." Ashley said.
She met us in the car and we drove to the mall. As soon as we arrived we went to the food court for a snack, then started walking around. We found Vera Bradley and walked in. I looked at a pair of flip flops that I really like. I rummaged through the bin, but they didn't have my size. I had great luck that weekend. I got dumped by my girlfriend and then I couldn't even get a stupid pair of flip flops!
"Find anything you like?" Ashley asked.
"No." I groaned.
"Hey! They have perfume!" Jessica squealed. "Smell this!"
I smelled it and it smelled amazing, it smelled...like Beca. Beca shopped at Vera Bradley?
"Smells good." I said.
"I think one of the Bellas has this." Ashley said as she took a whiff. "It smells familiar."
"Beca." I said.
"Chloe, get over it." Jessica said.
"No, Beca has that perfume." I said.
"Oh." Jessica said.
Jessica bought almost the entire store and filled up the trunk of my small buggy car. We drove home squished in the car and all got out as soon as I stopped in the driveway.
"Hey! You're back!" Emily said and ran outside to help us with the bags. "Woah, what happened to Chloe?"
"I'm fine!" I insisted. I ran into my room and buried my head in my pillow. Why couldn't it just be simple?
