Ch 8: The Day After

Peridot's pov

I had to leave early when the morning came because there had been a robotics meeting scheduled before.

I left a note for both Jasper and lazu-er Lapis, saying that I had left early.

"Hey Garnet!" I said with as much excitement as I could.

"Sup, you ready for another competition?" She said leaning forward. She wore a school letterman jacket and sat down in her chair that was turned backwards.

"Another one already??" I looked at her through my rounded glasses.

She nodded. I fist punched the air feeling the happiness run through my body.

"It's a partner grade, you wanna pair up?" She asked, I nodded rapidly.

I'm smart, she's smart which means a perfect grade.

Which also means we'll beat the competition.

An hour or two passed as our group of robotics talked of upcoming events as well as a field trip all together.

A yellow gem of average height and neck-length hair stood in front of the room announcing more info about the field trip.

"So to answer your questions, yes, you are allowed to bring gems from outside of the group" with that the meeting finished.

as a few students left some stayed to pick up on chit chat.

Me and Garnet gave each other a high five before we left the room.

My phone rang and I checked the screen to see I've gotten quite a few messages from both Jasper and Lapis.

I let out a light laugh.

"Stupid clods.."

"Peridot!!"

I heard two very familiar voices enter the library, immediately getting hushed at by the librarian.

I let out a soft giggle and layed down my great big book on the table.

They soon spotted me and came over with frustrated looks painting onto their faces.

"Whatever seems to be the problem?" I ask with a laugh

"Don't you dare laugh Peridot!" Lapis said with an angry expression

Jasper wore the same face "you didn't even leave us any messages saying you'd be gone!"

I stood and walked around some shelves carrying my big book with me. Jasper and Lapis following.

"I left a sticky note, many actually. Some by the bedside and a few on the dinner table and one on the door"

"Why are you both so mad? It's not like I've done anything wrong" I took two other books off some shelves to place them in the right area. I looked over at both Jasper and Lapis ever so often.

"I had a meeting with the robotics team" I turned to meet them face to face

"Oh, that sounds pretty cool" Lapis seemed quite interested but as I looked over to Jasper, her not so much.

And I know why, she isn't a fan of Garnet. She knows that Garnet's on the team so that makes her upset considering past events.

"So what'd you guys get up to?" Jasper asked trying to let her anger melt

"Well there is going to be another competition soon, we're working in pairs to win this one, I'm hoping you'll both want to come..?" I lead my last words drag as I asked them both.

"Of course!" "Of course"

They said in unison.

That made me really happy.

"So uh I got practice today.." Jasper said scratching the back of her head nervously

"Got it" I said

"Huh" she looked at me

"I'll go and wait for you" I gave her a light hug around her waist.

I usually wait for her anyways so I don't know why she's being so shy.

She can be cute.

She hugged back but held onto my left shoulder pressing down, a bit too hard may I add.

"Hey are you okay?" I looked up at her eyes and she loosened her grip and gave me a small smile

"We'll talk about it later" she told me and I nodded

"Now c'mon lets go to practice" she said walking in front of me and lapis.

"Hurry lapis lets go find a nice spot under some shade" I told her as we ran off behind Jasper

We found a spot under two trees and set down a small blanket to be on. Lapis sat down and I laid down, bringing my head back onto lapis' lap.

"Don't you think having this blanket is a little extra?" she asked as she read a book above me

"There's nothing wrong in being prepared" I turned my head over in the direction of the field and watched as the football players tackled each other to the ground.

"Hey Peridot..?" Lapis asked for my attention

"Hm" I hummed in response

"I just wanted to let you know that if you ever need anything then I've got your back" I was stunned, I haven't known her for the longest time yet she was showing me so much care

"Th-thank you I'd really like that" I said back

As the wind blew gently I slowly closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep
