To all those who have read the first “episode”, thank you very, very much! Please continue to support my story! NOW LET’S GET ROLLIN’.
I woke up really woozy. I was still sleepy. It was six in the morning when Federico woke us up. Grandma Portia grunted when I tried to wake her. Doesn’t this guy realize that we slept at 1 in the morning? I went to the kitchen to get some milk from the fridge. I was still dragging the sheets when Mom stole it away from me. She was all dressed up.
Mom: “You should hurry, Addie. Federico is driving us to the department store. We’re going to buy some of your things for school.”
Addie: “So early in the morning? Really, Mom? Sheesh. And what about my things for school? What’s with the hurry?”
Mom: “Well, Federico insisted. And besides, I think he has a point. I don’t want to do last minute shopping. It’ll chip my nails.”
Addie: “Seriously? That’s your problem? Don’t worry. I can do the shopping. Just… Don’t be so pushy. Tell Federico I’m going back to bed. Good night.”
Mom: “Pushy? Federico is trying to be a good father to you. He’s trying to spend more time with you, coz’ he’s worried that you won’t get to spend time with him once you enter high school. You’d be more worried about your studies, boys, pimples, break-ups, boys, wait, I said that already. Anyway, what I mean is, maybe you can do him that favor dear. Please?”
Addie: “Oh definitely. He’s definitely ‘not’ gonna be able to spend time with me, coz’ I’m getting out of here. I’m enrolling at a school far away from you and…and that guy!”
Mom: “I beg your pardon? That guy? He’s your father. You should respect him. And what do you mean by enrolling at a school away from here? There are plenty of schools you can choose from here.”
Addie: “Please Mom. I love you but, you pressed the matter about Federico on me all of the sudden. What happened to our deal that we’ll be honest with each other huh? Next thing I knew, you were already having…pot roast with him. I just can’t say anything to you because you were so glad to have him, but you never felt that I was miserable, yet I understood because you found somebody in your life, and it felt like you were rushing things, so I never got to tell you what I needed to say. That is why, before I blow up, I need some time alone, to be independent.”
Mom: “Oh Addie. I…I…I d-didn’t know. I mean, you never said anything.”
Addie: “Well, I kept my mouth shut because you’re happy being with him.”
Mom: “But Addie, we can always talk about this. We’ll go through this. You don’t need to go, right. Your friends are here. And besides, it’s hard for us to fend for your needs when you are too far from us and what about your school fees? At least, here, we can settle matters with a little ‘small talk’ and we’ll be fine.”
Addie: “If you’re worried about fees, Grandma Portia’s got that covered.”
Mom: “Auntie?”
Addie: “Yup”
We were waiting for Grandma Portia to wake up since she had a tiring day yesterday. We sat at the dining table, not saying anything to each other. I was very blunt about my feelings and it somehow felt a little awkward sitting across Federico. Of course he heard the conversation and now he looked dejected, I couldn’t look him in the eye. I felt like a total jerk. Now, I really am certain that I’ll be leaving this place. Mom was preparing breakfast. Now, I know deep down that I hurt her. That was the thing I was trying to evade, but I guess, because of the lack of sleep, I lost my temper and everything exploded. It felt good though, but I know that it left a few casualties, and my mom was one of them. When Mom finished setting the table, I heard the toilet door close. I bet it was Grandma Portia. I was really praying that she’d hurry. When she finished, she popped out to the kitchen.
