Lucos!
Alohomoria!
Stupideye!
Windgarden leviosah!
"Darren, give me that!" A boy, no older than fifteen, walked into the room and grabbed the wand out of a smaller boy's hand. The shorter boy was almost a spitting image of the older one, minus the bundle of curls bouncing on his head as the boy tightly held onto the piece of wood, trying to keep it for himself.
"You get to play with it all of the time. It's not fair. I want a turn, Chuck." He pouted, the wand sliding through his tiny hands as he falls onto the floor.
The other boy, Chuck, shook his head and laughed, holding the wand behind his back so Darren wouldn't be able to try and take it again. "And you're not even saying the spells right. It's lumos, not lucos." He took the wand from behind his back and repeated the phrase again. The tip of his wand lit up and a soft yellow shade filled the entire room.
Darren's eyes widened as he gasped, watching the light extend from his older brother's wand. He scanned the whole room, excited at the prospect that it was magic that made all of this happen. "Let me try!" he exclaimed, reaching for the wand just as Chuck whispered something quietly and slid the wand into his pocket.
"Nope. You haven't even gotten your letter yet, Darren. You're not supposed to use magic before you learn about it, and even if you did know how to cast spells, we're not supposed to use magic in the muggle world. You know that." Chuck warned him, sighing as he held out his hand for Darren. "C'mon, let's go downstairs. Mum made dessert."
Darren smiled, following Chuck down the stairs. He had always admired his older brother. They were closer than most siblings and Darren missed him dearly when Chuck was gone during the year at Hogwarts. He couldn't wait to be able to go Hogwarts with him.
"Hey Chuck?" he asked softly as they turned the corner and made their way into the kitchen.
Chuck sat down at the table, picking up the fork that had been laid down beside his plate. "Yeah, Darren?" he replied, not paying too much attention to his little brother as he took a bite of cake.
"I will get my letter soon, won't I?" Darren asked nervously. He had heard the rumors. It was rare, but sometimes in families with only one wizard parent, only one of the children got their letter and got to Hogwarts. He feared that he might never get his letter.
"Soon." Chuck promises, smiling at his younger brother before turning his attention back to his cake.
