"By the efforts of thousands of unfeeling fireflies trapped under glass, I meet Marina for the first time."

With these words, the reader is pulled into the odd, yet wonderful world of Marina, a cell phone novel written by tollforpianos. One cannot deny having a peculiar dream: what if fictional characters... would really exist? What if a person's life would have a turnover regarding their obsession with fiction?

Divided in 12 episodes, Marina is a story regarding a nameless programmer emigrated from China to Japan who has a stern view on life and everything concerning works of art (above all, anime), except for reading books. His co-worker, Akiyama Akihiko, is very fond of anime and recommends him to watch Marina, an anime airing at 2 PM o' clock for the first time. Trend version of the name "Mariko" in Japan,

Marina is an anime talking about a blue-haired college girl who is strongly admired by her classmates, has numerous friends and a family who loves her, and moreover, aces in every subject. The strangest thing about this anime is the fact there exists no promotional art, no names related to the project. An awkward plot, no particular genre. Only questions are left: who is Marina? And why is she involved with the nameless protagonist's life? Why does she see her? Does Marina exist? Or is it the protagonist's imagination?

A story filled with surprising, feverish plot twists, short, but intense chapters dedicated to the different facades of obsession, job and society. This is a story about "love", says the author, which then morphed into the narration about the relationship not only does the nameless programmer have with Marina, but also the correlation the readers themselves do have with fiction.

This cell phone novel is complete, with an interesting afterword section dedicated to what mainly inspired tollforpianos writing Marina, as well as comments by readers who might enjoy the break of the fourth wall, making them be part of the author's work: in fact, this story is open to many, different interpretations, capable to shape Marina (both the work and the fictional character) with the power of fantasy and strong bond to the world of fiction.
