Wakazashi

Galina woke up to the sounds of wind hitting the wood of the building hard. The Shimada estate was well built but some of the money had not gone into this building. The head out their room was renamed Umi. The clan members had renamed everyone a Japanese name. Galina is now Tani and Taisia was Yuri. Umi glanced at her concerned her dark skin looked like milk chocolate under the light. "Can't sleep?" She asked quietly stretching on the cot she was sitting on. Taisia snored a bit before silencing herself. Galina shrugged. "I'm Calista or Umi since those pricks renamed us." Galina raised her eyebrows at the name she chose for their captors but said nothing. Galina was never a social child that was normally Taisia. "You don't talk much do you?" The wind stop howling and a sharp knock sounded from the door. Calista cautiously walked towards it listening closely. She put a finger on the lips asking for silence.

"Get them ready Umi." The order was clear and it signaled the start of the day. Galina woke Taisia getting the complaints and the request for five more minutes but they didn't have that time.

"Taisia I'm not asking again. Don't make me drag you out of bed." Galina threatened quietly. Taisia slithered out from under the black covers of their cot heading over to Calista where she was handing out uniforms.Taisia wouldn't have to physically train since she was too young by the standards. They started training at age seven, Galina was so lucky. The simply robe like garb didn't suit Galina. She preferred her brown jacket and blue jeans to this. Yet those were tucked away somewhere under their bed. Once everyone was awake and dressed the headed out in a single file line. Galina right behind Calista since she was technically the second eldest in their group Taisia at the very end. "Where are we going?" Galina asked Calista.

"Not sure pequeno." Galina didn't know that language she was speaking but she guessed it was Portuguese. "Some sort of dojo maybe." Galina nodded as the passed under a beautiful wooden arch that lead into a courtyard with a circular gravel pit. Some girls were already training in the center sparing with each other. A woman watched from the sidelines telling them to fix their stance in Japanese. When one of them went down the victor helped the other up they bowed to the older woman leaving swiftly heading on to do other things. She watched them calmly brown eyes scanning over everyone in a calculating way. Calista was dismissed to join the other teenage girls. The area was in closed by a large tree blocking the snow from getting into the small room. Stone arches were the only exits. Taisia had left the group after being pulled aside by a male guard. Galina breathed in the cold morning air. The skies still were coming to life the clouds a beautiful orange and purple. Then people were called into pairs and given wooden training staffs. Galina held it in her hands able to twirl it easily. The wood was very light. "Tani!Nyx! You're up first." She ordered. Her name was Sensei Akali or at lest that's what Galina thought it was. The boys filed having started sooner than they had.

Nyx and Galina started walking around in the circle waiting to see who would strike first. Nyx made the first move swinging for her head. Galina ducked tripping Nyx hitting her in the face as she fell. Her nose was bleeding badly. Master Akali looked deeply pleased she motioned for a boy to stand handing him the same weapon. "Genji you and Tani are a team. Nyx and Taree are a team." Genji smiled at Galina though she didn't do the same only focusing on the fight. Taree went for her hitting her in the arm but Galina blocked the rest of her attack sweeping her legs out from under her dropping the staff harshly on her stomach. Genji was losing to Nyx who seemed determined to win.

Genji was nearly about to go down when Galina kicked her over onto the gravel. She offered a hand to Genji. He took it some of the boys snickered. Master Akali was beaming at them. "You are all dismissed."

Galina was sitting by the cherry blossoms the snow falling lightly Taisia laid besides her talking about all the things they made her study. Mostly speaking Japanese which was something Galina had to study as well. Calista ran up to her a smaller sword in her hand. She handed it to Galina without a word. A small note was attached to it. So someone had given her a sword
