Fortissimo layed in the beanbag chair in the library, you know, rather than sit. She felt awkward and thought that she would have been more comfortable if she was at home. She stared down at the Captain Underpants graphic novel she had managed to swipe before some rambunctious boys did. She had never gotten a chance to ever read one because they were either all checked out, or the boys were too fast. Fortissimo knew she had little time to even read it because the teachers were all so eager to get back to force feeding education to the children. Fortissimo is in 5th grade, and she is growing tired of school. She was tired of the same get up, eat, go to school, be at school all day, go home, go to sleep pattern. She thirsted for something new, something fresh, something--

"Okay everyone, line up," ordered the teacher to the 19 or so students. The teacher had a lucky break this year, her class was small compared to other ones in the school. The students were all very unexcited to get back to class and listen to some jail warden drone on about multiplication. Slowly, Fortissimo slinked out of the beanbag chair, onto the floor, and over to the now forming line, clasping the copy of Captain Underpants close to her chest. The librarian liked Fortissimo, and they were friends. Mostly because Fortissimo came to the library often.

The librarian knew that Fortissimo did not like her classes, so she let her stay and help out sometimes.

"Hey Forte," the librarian called. Fortissimo walked semi-quickly over to the counter, her small mouse paws going pip pap pip pap. Fortissimo greeted the librarian with a quiet "hi." Fortissimo's class had already started walking down the hall, but neither the librarian or Fortissimo cared.

"Forte, can you help me? I have some new books to put out," the librarian explained. Fortissimo nodded and placed her book down on the counter. The librarian walked over to a closet which was parallel to the counter, and Fortissimo followed her. The closet was dark, save for the light that was streaming in from the main area of the library. The librarian reached into a box and pulled out a stack of the same book. The books were all wrapped in plastic and all looked incredibly new. The librarian set the books down on the floor, and Fortissimo made quick work of the plastic wrapping. The librarian told Fortissimo the directions to where the books should go. Fortissimo quickly went to the bookcase and put in the new books accordingly. She noticed one book that caught her attention. It looked fairly old, the spine held no words, and it was a brownish color. Fortissimo pulled the book off the shelf. It felt like some sort of synthetic leather, it was a hardback book, and the cover had an engraving of a lily.

"Do you need any help?" The librarian asked Fortissimo.

"No, I got it," Fortissimo said.

Fortissimo opened the book and quickly glanced through the pages. She noticed three specific words while flipping through the pages: "life will change."

Fortissimo dismissed this, she was not one to believe in omens or the like. She quickly put the book back on the shelf and walked back to the librarian.

"Forte, you had better go back to class," the librarian told Fortissimo. Fortissimo bid farewell to the librarian, grabbed her book from the counter, and summoned all her strength to push the heavy door open. The air was frigid in the hallway, and the white, speckled, concrete floors were cold against her paws. It was as silent as death, except for maybe the sounds of a door slamming shut in the distance. She knew the way back to her classroom, it was pure muscle memory. The hallways were empty except for a couple of teachers that passed her. The teachers did not question why she was not in class, they did not even care. Fortissimo turned a few corners and reached the 5th grade hallway. Her classroom was in a room near the middle of the hallway. She stops and knocks softly on the door. She thought she had pounded on the door, but in reality nobody was even able to hear it. She stands awkwardly for about 30 seconds before knocking on the door a little harder. Finally someone noticed her and opened the door. The teacher did not question where she had been, this was normal for her.
