"Are you ready for the new day, Zera?" Mavis exclaimed happily to her best friend.

Zera sighed. "How are you always happy, Mavis? I would be crying my eyes out if I were you."

"Why would I cry?"

"You have to clean the library today!"

"Don't worry, I signed you up to do it with me!"

"You have got to be kidding me, Mavis."

"Nope, so let's get going!" Mavis yelled. She practically dragged Zera to school. When they arrived at Fiore High, Mavis sighed happily. "Lighten up a little, Zera! If we finish early, we can explore the books."

"Only you would want to do that." Zera rolled her eyes.

"Books are amazing, Zera. You won't get to meet a fairy if you don't read."

"And why is that, Mavis?"

"Fairies only come to those who bestow the six true gems of life. There's the gem of friendliness, the gem of gratitude, the gem of loyalty, the gem of protecting, the gem of self awareness and the gem of wisdom. These are not real gems, though, they are hidden within people. If you have all the gems in you, or you gather with a group of people that has one of each gem in it, fairies will make there way to you!" Mavis explained giddily.

Zera laughed and led Mavis to class as she continued to talk about fairies. Zera looked at Mavis for a moment. The two had been friends since they were little. They had both lost their parents at a young age, so they lived in an orphanage together until someone finally adopted them. Mavis had looked the same for most of her life. She had long, golden locks of hair that went down to her ankles. There was a pair of wings attached to her head, one wing on one side, one on the other. She had an interesting eye color. It was sea green at the top, but it faded into dark blue towards the bottoms. Nonetheless, she had a certain uniqueness in her. She had stopped growing when she was about thirteen, which made her short and flat chested. Zera, however, had changed a lot since she was little. Zera had two pigtails in her hair that went down to her chest. She had brown hair and hazel eyes. Zera was a foot taller than Mavis, due to Mavis' growth stunt.

"And then when you meet the fairy it-"

"RING!!!"

"Class is starting, Mavis." Zera giggled.

Everyone in the room began to quiet down as a strange aura filled the room. A drop of sweat fell down the side of Zera's head. It was incredibly dark magic. A very powerful dark magic. Their teacher, Mr. Leo, walked into the room with a boy. Zera's eyes widened. He was the source of the magic. It spread through the room like a wildfire. People started crying and hitting each other. Zera gritted her teeth and glared at the boy. She looked away for a moment to try and clam a few of her classmates down. When she looked back she saw Mavis talking to the boy.

"Hey there! I'm Mavis. Mavis Vermillion." She greeted the boy. Mavis extended her hand out towards him, smiling happily

The boy stared at Mavis with big, black eyes. He had incredibly pale skin and dark hair. He tilted his head at her and slowly, but hesitantly, took her hand. "I'm Zeref." His voice was cool and soft at the same time. Mavis smiled unconsciously at the sound of it.

"Ah, Mavis. Friendly as always. I'm sure you wouldn't mind showing Zeref around. He's new." Mr. Leo asked Mavis, his long, golden hair perking up along with his lion ears.

"No problem." Mavis relplied, snapping out of her dazed state. "You can sit next to me, Zeref."

At that moment, the darkness ceased. People settled down and stared at the two as Mavis brought Zeref to her desk. Every desk was about six feet long. Each one had two chairs. At the beginning of the year everyone had to partner up with someone, and a girl named Flora had gotten to Zera before Mavis could. No one else wanted to sit with Mavis. She was all alone, yet she didn't even realize.
