Chris's POV:
I woke up the next morning with the sun shining in my face from the window. I had almost forgotten where I was. Eliza was still asleep in the same position she was in and my back still hurt but not as bad. Her blond hair was covering my arm and she was still laying on me so I didn't want to move. She lifted her head and her eyes fluttered open.

"Good morning." She smiled beautifully laying on her stomach facing me, her hair falling to one side. "Good morning." I smiled back. "How'd you sleep and how's your back?" She said putting her hand on my arm. "Great and better. I'm lucky, I'm here with you."
"You're telling me. You could have been worse. Let me see." She said getting up and motioning for me to sit up. She gently ran her hand over my bruises. "Looks a little better but it's still bad."
"I know." I said. "I'll take care of you." She smiled kneeling in front of me and hugging me.

We went downstairs for breakfast and got dressed and ready for the day. We set out and walked around town. The radio was playing Book of Love by the Monotones and the hot summer sun shone down. "Remember you can't tell anyone about this." I said grabbing her shoulders. "I won't."
"Not even Gordie."
"I promise." She said. "Even if they notice any other marks don't say."
"I won't Chris, but remember what we talked about last night."
"I know." I said kicking a rock.

"Morning guys." Gordie waved. "Morning!"
"Eliza, I saw you guys leave the your house this morning, I was gonna too but I wasn't ready yet." He said.
"It's okay. We did leave a little early." She said.
"Morning Troops!" Teddy said referring to the war of course. "You guys see the news last night?"
"About what?" I asked. "They found Ray Brower." We all froze and looked at each other in confusion. "Who's they?" I said. "Police or whatever."
"Ohhh." We said feeling stupid. "We must have given pretty good instructions." Gordie said. "Yeah that kid was all the way up past Harlow and down through the Royal." I said. "At least he can finally rest in peace." Eliza said. Gordie looked away. "Fucking Vern." Teddy said. Vern was usually the last one to show up. He ran over out of breath like usual. "Sorry, my mom wouldn't let me leave till I did the dishes."
"Aw your mommy made you do the dishes?" Teddy teased. "Shut up! I had no choice."
"Ace and them never got back at us did they? I mean it's been four days now since we found the body." Gordie said.
"Shit Gordie they're not gonna do anything. They would have by now but you seemed to scare em' off." I said. "Yeah the worst they did was stop me and Chris on the street and we just kept walking." Eliza said. "I found a couple more pennies." Vern said shaking his pockets. "It's gonna take a lot to fill that penny jar back up to the top."
"I found some in Billy's room. That bastard took some." We all laughed at Vern.

We went to our usual hang out spot that we went to almost every day. No other kids or anyone else went there.

We finally taught Eliza how to play cards and she was good at it. "I knock." Gordie said. "Whatta ya got?" Gordie said. "18." She said. "21." Gordie said snacking down his cards. "Ha she beat your ass on her first try how do you feel Lachance?" I teased. "Kiss my ass." He said shaking his head. "And Gordie looses again!" Teddy laughed. Gordie always lost at our card game. "Rematch?" She smiled. "Yeah right." He said still bummed at his loss. "Hey you know who I saw walking this morning? Near Blue Point?" Teddy said. "Who?" We said in unison. "Janis Baker."

Janis Baker was 17, two years older than us, and she was one of the hottest girls in school and there weren't many hot girls in school. Besides Eliza since she'd be starting there this year. "No way." Gordie said. "Yeah it was great." Teddy grinned. "Yeah just like Anette's, Janis's tits are great." Vern smiled referring to the TV show.

Eliza had a fake smile on her face, I could tell she was unimpressed. "Wonder if she's still there." Gordie said. I always thought Janis was pretty hot too but I was never super crazy about her. I didn't really like anyone in this town besides these boys of course. I especially didn't care now that Eliza was my girlfriend. "Why don't we go find out?" Vern said stirring up an idea. "Lets go right now!" Teddy said. "You guys in?"
"Hell no." I said casually. "You were swooning over her just as bad as us a month ago." Teddy said. Eliza's eyes went wide at me. "Shut up you asshole! That's was a month ago and that was cause she was the only good looking girl in this town, but not anymore." I said smiling at Eliza. She smiled back. "Okay we'll see ya later then." Teddy said. "See ya guys." Gordie said. It was nice that Eliza and I were alone anyway. "Who's Janis?" She said a little pissed. "Some girl in our school that's going into grade 12." I said. "We were crazy about her cause she's some what good looking and has nice tits but I never was really that crazy for her."
"Oh." She said looking down. "Hey," I said putting her chin up and then grabbing her hands. "She got bumped down by you cause you're the best looking girl in this town." I said assertively. "Bullshit." She laughed shaking her head. "No it's true. I never told you this but even Gordie said so. He said I was lucky."

She smiled and kissed me. "Fine." She said putting her hair behind her ear. "I love you." I said. "I love you too Chris Chambers." She said running her hand through my hair. We met with the boys later and the two of us set out for the day.
