Eliza's POV:
The summer was going by fast. It was already the end of August. It had been such a good summer and I was so glad to have met Chris and the boys. Chris was doing well with avoiding getting beat from his dad. Spending more time out and just doing what ever he tells him. Most of the time he didn't care about Chris anyway. My parents were very good to him and I constantly thanked them for that. Chris wasn't a bad boy but he was a bad boy meaning in the past he's done things that have gotten him into trouble but with no intention of actually doing it to be bad. That how he was misunderstood in this town because people judged and didn't know him. I've only known him for a month but I've spent almost everyday with him and all day. When you're around a person that much you can get to know them pretty fast.

One afternoon it was getting pretty cloudy and was about to rain. I went out to get the paper for my parents when I saw Gordie talking to his dad in the garage. "Eliza!" He called me. "Hey Gordie." I said walking over. "What's up?"
"I was just about to ask my dad if you guys wanted to stay over night at my place. We're supposed to be gettin' a storm." He said. "Tonight?"
"Yeah, ya think you can?"
"Of course." I said. Gordie went back to the garage wanting me to follow to go ask him.

"Uh, dad?" His dad was drilling some wood. "Dad!" Gordie hollered over the noise of the drill. He stopped using the drill still continuing to ignore Gordie. "Dad..." he said again. "What?" His dad said still not turning around. "I... I was just gonna ask if it'd be okay if Eliza and the boys could stay over night tonight. Just in the basement."
"The boys, what boys?"
"You know... Chris, Teddy and Vern." His dad looked at him like he had four heads. "Oh them?"
"Yeah." Gordie said uncomfortably. "A thief and his followers that's what they are." He said bitterly. "Chris isn't a thief." Gordie defended. It made me upset when his dad said that about him. I guess he didn't know about me and Chris. Or maybe he did and just didn't care. Either way I didn't care he was rude. "He stole the milk money at school." His dad argued. "That was a while ago." I said.
"He's a thief in my book." His dad said starting to walk away. "So is that a yes?" Gordie said. "Sure." His dad said continuing his way on inside.

"I can't wait." I smiled. "Yeah." Gordie murmured. I could tell he was hurt by his dad. "I'm sorry Gordie." I said feeling bad. "Don't let it get to you."
"Thanks." He smiled a small smile. "Come at six, and tell The others."
"I will, I'll see you later." I said walking back inside. "See ya."

What an asshole his dad was.

I told the boys about Gordie's tonight and the were coming too. Chris said his dad was sleeping and Eyeball wasn't home so his dad wouldn't care if Chris left the house.

When it was time to go I threw on my white converse and my blue sun dress. I stood in front of my mirror and put my hair into a fish tail braid. "Lookin' good there."
There was Chris leaning on the door frame of my room with his arms crossed and a smirk on his face. "Chris what the hell?!" I laughed. That smirk of his always made butterflies in my stomach. He laughed a little. "Did I actually scare you?"
"Yes because I didn't know you were here!"
"Your mom let me in." He said walking over to me. "and I'm glad she did."

I looked down for a moment. "What's wrong?" He said protectively putting his hands on my waist. "You're staying over night at Gordie's, when you get back tomorrow won't your dad-"
"No, Eyeball told him. He doesn't care."
"Okay... good." I'm said putting my arms around him with relief. "You don't need to worry." I really hated when he said that. "I know but it's hard not to when you have a new bruise everyday."
"Eliza you're exaggerating." He said. "I know but you know what I mean."
"Yeah." He said quietly looking down. I quickly pecked his lips. "Lets go! It's almost six." I said taking his hand and leaving with him.

Gordie said his parents would be out for the night so we'd be home alone. We all went up to Gordie's room. I could see Denny's room from down the hall. I saw pictures of them together in Gordie's room.

We went into the basement where our sleeping bags and pillows were. We could hear the thunderstorm starting up. "Shit it's pouring." Vern said looking around. "You scared?" Teddy laughed. "No I'm not!" Vern whined. "So you wouldn't mind if we checked your jockey's for Hershey squirts, would ya?" Gordie teased.
"Go screw." Vern pouted.
"Eliza's not even scared." Teddy said. "What's that supposed to mean?!" I defended. "Well you're a girl."
"So what?!"
"Vern's a pussy."
"No he's not Teddy." I said with an eye roll. "You're still a girl." He laughed. "Cut it out Teddy." Chris defended. "That's it Chambers you always turn pussy. Especially that you're defending her." He said getting pissed off.
"No shit she's my girlfriend you asshole!" Chris said getting up. Teddy surprisingly didn't say anything back. "Um I'm gonna go to the washroom." I said awkwardly. "She's got the ass though." Teddy said.
"What the fuck did you just say?!" Chris said ready to knock him out. "HEY HEY!" Gordie said holding back Chris. "Stop, what the fuck is the problem?" Gordie said. I was completely surprised Teddy would say that. "Common guys. What ever problem you have deal with it later." Vern said. They didn't say anything after that.

When I got back from the bathroom the power went out. "Wow." I said caught off guard. "Got any matches Gordie?" Vern said. "Yeah I'll grab a few candles." He said heading upstairs.

Even though it was dark and I couldn't see, I could feel the tension building between Chris and Teddy.
