Jay's POV
"...and I also will not tolerate in-house dating." Sergeant Hank Voight concluded. I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "Anything you'd like to say, Halstead?" I felt his eyes glaring at me. I didn't make eye contact. "No, sir." I replied, staring through him; I felt somewhat intimidated by Voight. Although, I was curious to find out why he didn't tolerate in-house dating, and why he thinks I would even go for one of my colleagues. "Good." Voight concluded. He sucked in his cheeks and turned around, the creases in his brown leather jacket stood out, as he walked towards his office. I looked around the upper section of the 21st District, and wandered towards a desk. I could tell it was a female's. Everything was in perfect positioning and there wasn't a speck of dust to be seen. As I carried on looking around, I felt a hand tap my shoulder."Hey. What are you doing at my desk?" Came a voice from behind. "I was just trying to fin-" my words cut off, as I turned around to be facing possibly the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. She had short, light brown hair with blonde highlights that looked a little faded, and half of it was tied in a bun on top of her head, whilst the other half fell messily to just above her shoulders. Her emerald green eyes shone brighter than any other jewel. Two cups of coffee were placed in her delicate hands. "I heard we have a newbie starting today, and there's no other way of welcoming them to the 21st than a cup of coffee!" She said. Her voice was like music to my ears. I smiled weakly at the angelic woman in front of me. "Erm.. thank you." I said, with a cool smile playing on my lips. "I'm Erin. Detective Lindsay. I've been here for 4 years." She said, gesturing the steaming cup towards me. "I'm Jay..Halstead. I'm new here and I'm just looking for my desk?" I say, taking the cup out of her hand.
"Ah Halstead! That has a nice ring to it. Your desk is over there!" She says, pointing to an empty desk with nothing but a computer, keyboard and mouse. "You can put some pictures in a frame if you like, most of us here have." She adds, pointing towards her own picture, of her and a slightly older man. "Okay, thanks, Lindsay?" I reply, still filled with a sense of overwhelming joy, as I realise that my desk is directly opposite hers! Now. I know that Voight said "no-in house dating blah blah blah," but he didn't say that one of my colleagues would be as gorgeous as her. Lindsay. Erin Lindsay. I'm afraid, sir, I'm going to be breaking some rules this time.
