Chapter Two~

~Nicole~

My jaw dropped when I opened the apartment building's front door. I felt as if my eyes were deceiving me; I didn't trust them. This was impossible. Did some rich guy just forget it here? The thing undoubtedly must have been hundreds and thousands of dollars.

I stared bug-eyed at the faded yellow vehicle parked, untouched, in the parking lot. The car was topless with black-leathered, plush chairs and had at least six seatings. Cadillac was engraved on the sleek paint coat in pure silver, proving it was luxury.

My suitcase slipped from my grip.

"A Cadillac," Lauren stated, walking up to my side. "It's all ours'."

I tried to shape words with my mouth, but I couldn't find any.

I stroked my hands and gripped the smooth handle of the car. Unlocking it, I slid into the driver's seat, Lauren mirroring me on the opposite side. I looked over to her then back and gripped the wheel.

"Are we ready to go?" I asked, grabbing the small keys from the shiny cup holders. Tilting my head and glancing at her, she already was getting her Beat headset in and nodding vigorously like a maniac. Looking back at the wheel and shaking my head, I put the keys in the ignition and kindled the car to life.

Pulling out of the drive way, Lauren put in one of her music playlist CDs and we started singing "Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line.

"BABY YOU A SONG, YOU MAKE ME WANNA ROLE MY WINDOWS DOWN, AND CRUISE!" We sang at the top of our lungs like fools, rewarded with curious glances by people jogging the early streets.

After awhile of relentless glares and singing horridly at the top of our lungs, we had been at bay in our first sign of traffic around ten o' clock. Peering over at Lauren, who had been focused on her phone for nearly the entire time, now probably on her signature Youtube, watching videos or tweeting. (Hashtag shameless promo.) Did I mention that she was a full-time Youtuber? She spent a lot of time making and editing her own comical videos.

The morning traffic evaporated- it was a Tuesday, so the highway would probably be deserted- and we started cruising down the road. We had to pick up one of my best guy friends, Eric. Heaven knows how long we've known each other, but it's been almost forever, like Lauren and I.

I vividly remembered stumbling upon him in second grade; it was a time when boys and girls were allowed to be "just-friends." He was being cruel, teasing me in front of the class about a boy I liked, and I dumped my grape juice-box on the top of his blonde hair, staining it with a faded purple. We both had a meeting with the principal, and when the principal wasn't looking, we talked rubbish behind her back. Like how ridiculous her purple lipstick was, or how she had meaty man hands; stuff we still laughed about years later. The teasing bonded us- and stained his hair temporarily purple.

I riveted the Cadillac to the right and entered his street, Hill Crest Ave. His road had always been caged in dark shadows, due to the vast amount of thick trees on everyone's lawns, so the temperature had dramatically dropped. The wind whistling in front of our faces was crisp and wintry, unlike the sunshine-air on Main Street.

Once I spotted the familiar, little brown cottage, I put the car to a purring crawl. I knew his house all too well; it was at the very end of the road, located on a dead-end, planted right in front of the skirting woods. I always thought of his house as Snow White's cottage; I wouldn't be surprised if the seven dwarfs emerged from the trees.

"And we're here," I announced. I parked the gorgeous car next to curb- I knew Eric would drool over it.

Lauren seemed bored in the passenger seat, consumed in her phone. She was tapping the screen rapidly.

"Lauren!" I snapped. She jumped 10 inches in her seat. "We're here," I sang.

She casted me a wink. "Go get some."

I felt the blood boil in my face. "Shut up."

I disengaged my seatbelt and clicked open the door. With sweaty palms, I made my way up to Eric's house. My heart thundering painfully against my ribcage, I tapped on the door.

"Coming!" I heard a voice exclaim from the other side of the door. Eric's.

I waited on his front porch. Eventually, the door opened to reveal someone. I bit my lip and let my eyes meet his blue ones.

"Hey," he said, his voice raspy and smooth as usual.

I resisted letting my mouth hang open as my eyes studied him. His blonde hair shined with the day's sunlight, his tall height towering over mine. He smirked down at me.

"You got taller," I blurted out. Damn, why did I say that? Stupid.

He laughed, leaning on the doorway. "Maybe you just shrunk, shortie."

My mouth formed an outraged 'o.' "For your information, sir, I'm 5'11."

"Nice to meet you, 5'11, I'm 6'4."

I couldn't keep my straight face and burst out laughing, and he joined in. After our endless seeming laughter subsided, I said, "Let me help you with your bags."

"Alright, cool," he replied, turning to enter his house.

I turned swiftly to gesture a "one minute" to Lauren, and stepped in the doorway.

His bags were assembled next to the door, so I blindly grabbed the first two. I discovered that there were only two.

"Shall we? " he said jokingly holding out his arm to Wizard of Oz it to the car.

Nodding, we interlocked arms and skipped down to the car like fools.

When we go to the car, i put his bags in the back and hopped into the drivers seat and Eric jumped, literally JUMPED, into the back. Looking at Lauren, then to Eric. Smile then say

"Ready for our summer to finally begin?"

"LEGGGGOOO!!!!" Lauren shouts

"YEAAAAAH BOIIII!!" Eric screams
