I went to Xzavier's house after that moment at the cosmetics store. We hung out in his basement, where his pool table and air hockey table was.
"So," Xzavier leaned against the the pool table. "How did you get so good at lying?" He asked. Xzavier's hair shagged over his left eye. His hair was a Carmel brown and his eyes were a light blue. He always wore a dark blue hoodie was jeans, but today he wore something different. "Well..." I paused. "I don't know. Why do you ask?" Xzavier took a deep breath. "Well... I have this thing..."
"This thing..." I echoed.
"With a girl." He continued.
"With a girl..." I echoed again. I raised my eyebrows and smiled. "Who is this girl?"
Xzavier gave me a forced smile and starched his head. "It's uh... Jordey Caldwell." I smiled and started to laugh. "Jordy Caldwell?! The weirdest girl in school?! That's some date there." I chuckled.
"IT'S NOT A DATE!" Xzavier shouted. He hung his head. "It's uh... A study group..."
"A study group? You two are the smartest kids in the whole school! Why would you need to be in a study group?" I asked, but I knew he wouldn't give me an answer. Xzavier doesn't like talking about his grades. "Look," he jumped up on the pool table and grabbed one of the balls. "I'm trying to get out of it, okay? But I'm not good at lying... Unlike you."
"Look Zavy, I'll get you out of this." Xzavier blew his hair out of his face. "You will?"
"Totally! Anything for a buddy right?" I gave him a nudge on the shoulder. "Yah, anything." His voice was quiet and he seemed kinda ashamed of something. "Look, I owe you for the cosmetics store, I'll do anything for you." Xzavier looked and and smiled. "Anything?"
"Look, I know what you have in mind and I'm already blowing off your 'study date' so I think it's enough." I replied.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed and I got a text. "Who is that from?" Xzavier asked, trying to look over my shoulder. "Oh no one, just my mom telling me to come over for supper." I lied. "I gotta run." Xzavier moaned, "I'll guess I'll see you later." I rushed to get my jacket and headed to the basement door. "I'll cya!" I shouted. "Cya." He said, sadly.
The text wasn't from my mom, it was from Tessa Core, the "popular kid" and I owed her a favour that the mall.
