We are young

An hour later I find myself standing outside a house surprisingly bigger than my own next to Tanner - and we're in suits. I never knew I was so hot in a suit before. I knock the back of his orange head hard. "You never said she's an actress," I grit out as we start towards the house, after spending two and a half minutes staring at her face on a magazine cover plastered on a canvas the size of a billboard.

Tanner shrugs. "Yeah, but it didn't seem important. I dunno, maybe you wanna keep her this time."

I roll my eyes and pull him through the door. "Hell no. You have no idea how much I've liked out living everyone. I prefer to be young forever."

Tanner rolls his own eyes. "Whatever, man. Let's just find this girl so you can kill her - again."

I nudge him lightly. "Shut up. We can't have people knowing I plan to murder the person this party is for."

Tanner is one of the few people I've told in my lifetime. He's one of the very few people I kind of don't want to say goodbye to when he dies of old age. Bella's not too bad either - she's kind of fun. But that's a small stumble in my joyously long journey.

So, from the poster outside, I've found that Evie has blue eyes and black hair.

Sounds like the sirens from Between the Lines to me. Maybe Evie's a siren in this life?

I wonder how tall she is. . .

Tanner suddenly hits my stomach. "Ow! What the hell?!"

He points up to the balcony and I lift my gaze to see Evie. Well, I think she's Evie. She's wearing a strapless, slim fit black dress that hugs her body until her waist where it falls in a straight cut after, with a slit on her left that goes as high as her knee, exposing the glittering black pumps on her feet. She must be short. Her dark hair is loose and pin straight. To be honest, this is Evie's best look so far. I'd hate to see this version die.

But living forever . . .

Please be a snob, then I won't hesitate to kill you in seconds.

Evie smiles and waves at everyone who I'm sure are here only because she's famous. eventually she makes her way down and I notice her disappear out a door into the large garden.

"Go on," Tanner tells me. "Go seduce her into an alley or whatever and then kill her . . . murderer." He adds the last bit with a grin.

I roll my eyes. "You make it seem like I should be in prison."

"You should. By tonight, you'll have killed a hundred women."

"Shut up, Tanner."

"How's the headache and the ringing?"

I sigh, doing my best not to drive my fist through my head. "The ringing is gone, like always, but the headache is still there."

Tanner shrugs. "Go on, brother. The beauty awaits you."

"Whatever, Tanner."

I make my way through the crush of people to the garden patio where almost everyone outside is drunk or nearly there. Evie is smiling with a group of people she clearly doesn't know. I stop at the ridiculously large buffet table, picking up things on a toothpick or tiny fork and putting them back after deciding not to eat it. I can always talk to Evie later. I won't start ageing until we've properly met, so I can waste as much time as I like until then.

Might as well let her walk around the ridiculously 'hot' men as she so loudly exclaims and hope one of them is her soul mate for a few minutes. Maybe I'll kill her after the party. Or maybe after she gets drunk from - I think that's her fifth glass of champagne.
