Bella has given up trying to persuade me not to eventually kill Evie.
Tanner has given up trying to shut her up on the odd occasion when she does loudly comment on my 'behaviour'.
And me? I've given up trying to stay away from Evie; she's like a damn magnet. That doesn't mean I'm not going to kill her.
After two weeks, I had to introduce Tanner and Bella to her, partly because she wanted to meet them and partly to shut Bella up. It didn't work, because Bella and Evie won't shut up when they're in the same room.
"Dude, will you just admit it?" Bella says over the muted sounds of some really old horror film that's not even remotely scary.
I turn to Bella, who's resting on the couch behind me. "Admit what?"
"Pass me another slice please," she says. She continues after I hand her a slice of pizza from the box between Tanner and I. "That you're not going to kill Evie."
"I so am."
"You're not," Bella says with a laugh. "You've spent a month with her, you're not gonna end up killing her by the end of today."
"What if someone else does?" Tanner asks with a snort.
I roll my eyes. "I'm the only one that's allowed to kill Evie, okay? Besides, it's not like anyone else will get the chance. I'm doing it tonight, one hour after she remembers so I can feel relief when she stops yapping, which is in . . ." I check my watch. "Twenty minutes."
Tanner sighs and turns his attention back to the TV. Bella groans. "Geez, dude. She's your soul mate for a reason. Why don't you try getting old with her? If you don't like it, you can always off yourself."
I squint at her. "Seriously? You won't miss me?"
"Oh, I'll miss you, I'll just say you deserved it . . . I know you won't kill her, Axel. You lo-"
I roll my eyes. "Get yourself a filter, Bells. One day you're gonna say something to the wrong person."
Bella groans again. Then she jumps. "Something vibrated!" she shrieks.
Tanner snorts as my phone falls into my lap. "Evie Number One Hundred is on line six," Bella says.
I roll my eyes and answer as I get up and answer, closing the door of Bella and Tanner's apartment behind me as I step outside. "Hey."
"Helloo Pickaxe! Rescue mission in progress!" Evie yells. "Where are you?"
"Where are you?"
"Running from a psychopath, care to join?"
"Evie. . ."
"Sean is following me, Axe. I'm . . . somewhere unknown. Oh! Wait, I see your car, I'm near Tanner and Bella's place."
I groan. "Evie. . . Okay, one minute tops."
She giggles. "I'm counting, Mr Young."
I roll my eyes and end the call as I run back inside to grab my keys and head down to my car.
I unlock the car in time to see Sean round the nearest corner and Evie get in the passenger seat. I'm in the driver's seat and about to pull away when Tanner and Bella get in the back. "Double date night, episode three," Bella says.
I roll my eyes. "More like Car Chase with Crazy Stalker Dude, episode two."
Bella groans and slumps in her seat. Tanner leans forward. "That Davies guy still after you, Eve?"
