My Night Time Reflection!
Plot: Two lovers who love each other, but don’t know the feelings of the other person. They spend their time talking to a person named Shadow about how they feel about each other.
Characters: Mayella- Young 18 year old Catholic girl who is afraid of dishonoring her family if she decides to be intimate with Monlo. Monlo- Young 19 year old Lutheran who believes he will be disowned from his family if he chooses to be intimate with Mayella.
Act 1
Scene 1: Mayella snuck out of her room and is talking to Shadow in the forest.
Mayella- Where doust the moon shine?
Shadow- From afar my lady, near the top of thout sky. (PAUSE) Doust thou love him?
Mayella- You ask thyne lady of do I? (PAUSE) The answer is yes, yes thoust love him and thyne heart loveth him also.
Shadow- Doust his loveth you and yours?
Mayella- You ask thyne lady of doust him? (PAUSE) The answer is yet unspoken, but only whispers of yee and nay. (PAUSE) I shall know not yet, but soon, for him noust telleth me.
Shadow- When shall he let thyne lady know? (PAUSE) Before the sun sets or after the sun soon rise?
Mayella- I do know not, for he NOUST TELLETH ME! (PAUSE) He speaks carefully, for thoust must know his own answer and give it unto thee. (drag-on) Before the night casteth a shadow, over the lake the moon doust shine, and through the woods of trees too tall to see. (Whisper)
Shadow- If not when then where my lady?
Mayella- I KNOW NOT! FOR THOUST NOUST TELLETH ME!
Shadow- If thyne knew, would thyne lady off thee lie down? (push-rushed-fast)
Mayella- Why do you ask thyne lady of do I? For I know not!
Shadow- Respond with yee, do not deny! For thout must want lay, lay upon him.
Mayella- I do know not, for I must know thyne answer of thoust love for me.
Shadow- And once he tells thyne?
Mayella- Then, then…thyne of us will stay true.
Shadow- NO! My lady thoust is a liar, thou will lay, lay upon him in sin.
Mayella- Nay! For thoust is deaf. I, thyne of if I may lay with him, thou say nay.
Shadow- Is thoust for certain? (PAUSE) For I believe that thyne maybe a liar of sort.
Mayella- I lie not! For thyne must stay pure.
Shadow- And what’s to say if thoust isn’t pure?
Mayella-Then, then…thoust will be shunned for the dishonor of thyne family.
Shadow- Ahhh my lady, for thoust is afraid of thee...
Mayella- Nay! I know not for if thyne lady of if I am afraid of thee. (PAUSE) For thou say if I am to be un pure then I have brought upon shame unto thee.
Shadow- Doust he want or is thoust forced by thee to stay pure?
Mayella- I know thoust must want for thou is not forced.
Shadow- Oh thyne lady! (PAUSE) For thoust must see the truth, thoust is blind if ye thinks that he wants and not forced.
Mayella- I know certain of that HE! Is not forced by thee, nor will thyne heart ever force he.
