"Ok guys! Remember that the project is due the week after we come back, so try to not procrastinate. Have a good summer and be safe."
As the bell rang, people poured out of the doors. I looked around and saw my bestie Alicia. "Hey Hads! Ready to pack for Spain?" I giggled and responded. "Um heck ya?!?!" We walked out of the front lobby doors and hopped into my old green jeep.
For extra credit, my best friend and I signed up to go to Spain this summer to get some extra world language points. Alicia flipped the radio on and Frank Sinatra was on. We sang right on tune and in sync, "Though I dream in vain, it will always rema...."
"HONK! HONK!" I looked back to see a police car signaling me to pull over. Alicia was confused, "Police cars don't honk, do they?" I laughed and said, "No, only if they are your dad." I stopped by the front of my driveway to see if my dad had followed me, and he had. I ran out of my car into my dads arms. "Hey Haddy, how was school?"
"Dad, it was school. It was.......average. Plus, the REAL fun is in two days." I glanced over to see Alicia taking my bags out. My dad held my hand and whispered in my ear, "Be safe, these days oversees can be rough. Promise me you'll be aware of your surroundings?" I looked into my dad's desperate green eyes. I flash backed to when I last saw the same look he had. My mom was in the hospital bed, during her last breaths. She looked up to my dad. who was helpless and said her last words, "I love you. I always have. And I always will."
"Dad, it's only for a month. I'll call you everyday, and I promise." He pulled me in for a hug and kissed my head. "Good girl. I'll pick you up at 8 to go to the airport, and be punctual." I saluted and laughed, "Yes sir! Good day sir!" He headed back to his car and waved goodbye.
I rushed over to Alicia. "Wanna invite our travel group to pack our stuff?" I pulled my bags inside and replied hesitantly, "Uhhhh....my house isn't in the best shape. Considering that I live with my dad and we barely have time to clean, I'll pass" She shook her head and giggled, "Hads, loosen up. Next year we go to college, and the homework will pile up more. Find time to have fun!"
Alicia was the closest thing I had to a sister. We met in first grade at recess when she stepped on my annoying long hair. We bonded through braiding hair and all things vintage throughout middle school. The funny thing was that she never gave up on me. Even when I spent most of 6th through 8th grade cooped up with my computer binging on YouTubers, she still knew what made me happy.
I looked at what she had pulled out of the microwave. "Don't say no because you need a mug brownie." She had that mischevious look on her face. "I am gonna get fat, but I'm ok with that." We jumped on our couch and checked our travel group members. Alicia started shaking her hands like she was dying or something. "Hadlee!!!!!! We have CLAYTON AIDEN in our group!!!" I checked my phone and we both started screaming from excitement.
