Chapter 1: flashbacks

-10 years ago-

3rd P.o.V

A small family of four lived joyfully in a lowly village not to far from the great city of magnolia. 2 girls giggled as they chased each other down the street. They looked odd to the other villagers. Both the girls having blue attributes to each child. Their parents, a happy couple, smiling as they played.

This wouldn't last long.

Yelling was heard throughout the family's house. "WHY DID YOU LIE TO ME FOR ALL THESE YEARS?!" The husband exclaimed. "TO PROTECT OUR FAMILY!!" The wife screamed back.

The man tore the youngest child away from her beloved sister. "No! Stop!" She screeched. "Ren!" The older one cried. "Storm! Help me!" Her father dragged her away, ignoring their cries of agony.

"WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO US?!" Mother yelled. "YOU ARE MONSTERS!" He slammed the door shut, leaving the 2 dragons to themselves.

- 3 years later -

The man had taken the younger child, Serenity, not realizing the dragon blood in her veins. Soon after the incident, he found her controlling water in a stream near their home. "Father! Father, come look!" She laughed as water swirled around her. In a rampage the father left her to die in the woods.

Returning to his own home, he realized what he had done to his life. Angrily, yet feeling repentant, he went back to his old village, to check on his wife and eldest daughter.

As he arrived, word went 'round the village, and eventually, a close friend of his told him the news. "Your wife is gone, Viper." "What?!" He screamed in outrage. " we had to kill her, under the fact that she was a dragon. She was a monster!" The villager sighed. "What happened to my daughter?" He mumbled. "Your wife said you took her, right before she passed away." At the moment a loud roar could be heard from afar. Villagers looked up in fear as the sky darkened and a storm began. Most took shelter, others stood still, terrified of the horrid sight of a dragon hovering in the sky.

The girl, Ren, who had been left to die in the woods, sat up covered in dirt. She slowly rose, grimly and held her side, waves of pain flowing through her body. Blood dripped down the sides of her head. Realizing what had happened, she started running, away from the place she used to call home.

- a year later -

The guild beamed like any other normal day, the kids running around, Natsu and Gray fighting, Ezra and Mira yelling at each other. "Natsu, Erza, Gray! In my office! NOW!" Gramps boomed.

The young mages stepped into master's office. "Sit." Gramps smiled. The 3 sat down in unison. "Now, i have a special mission for you three-" "A MISSION! DO WE GET TO FIGHT BAD GUYS?" Natsu cut gramps off. He sighed. "Sort of." "YAYYYYY!" Natsu gleamed. "Anyway, I need you three to catch a thief. This thief has been running around magnolia for a while now, and we've been getting THOUSANDS of complaints." "We can do it!" Erza stood up confidently

As they headed out the door master yelled. "DONT WRECK THE TOWN!" Before shaking his head then turning to his office. "Did master say something?" Natsu looked back. "Nah. He's old, what do you expect?" Gray put his hands in his pockets.

Walking in the middle of town, the group looked for anything suspicious. They heard a woman scream, "HELP! SOMEONE STOLE MY PURSE!" The kids ran over the lady in distress. "Hurry! They're getting away!" She screeched. The 3 ran towards the way she pointed. "Look!" Natsu had spotted the thief, dressed in mostly black, and a mask, hiding their face. They chased after them. Wanting to get the job done, Natsu started up his fire.

They cornered the thief. "Fire dragon roar!" He inhaled deeply before hearing the thief yell, "water dragon roar!" The 2 element crashed, mid air, steam filling up the alley. "W-what did you say?" Natsu stuttered. The thief stayed silent. "Don't just stand there! Get them!" Erza scolded, "ice make: cage!" Gray yelled. Spikes of ice shot out of the ground, trapping the thief.

Erza escorted the thief and Natsu and Gray led them to the guild. They burst through the double doors. "We caught the thief!"Natsu yelled. The thief fell to the ground, onto their knees. Master came down from upstairs, impressed by their swift success. "Very good!" He smiled. He bent over, pulling the mask off the thief. Long blue-green hair fell out, and the thief looked up. "A girl?" Natsu exclaimed. She glared at Natsu, before turning back to the old man in front of her. "Mind tellin us your name, deary?" He asked. " Serenity." She mumbled. "Serenity? What a pretty name." He smiled. Serenity looked up in surprise. "Why are you being so nice to me? Aren't you gonna take me to jail or something?" She shot back. "Feisty" could be heard from the crowd, that had appeared before them.
