Hermione's POV

I stood in front of my body length mirror putting the finishing touches on my outfit. I'm wearing a short black dress with a deep v neck cut, and some nude, 4 inch heels. My hair is in a fishtail braid that hung on my right shoulder. This outfit will surely impress both Mrs Malfoy, and the Daily Prophet reporters. For the first time in my life, I want to make the front page, and I'm going to put on a good show to get there. Finally I stopped fiddling with my dress and walked out of my room to look for mal- Draco.

Hermione's dress :)

I found Draco standing in front of the couch. He's just wearing a simple black button up shirt with a green tie and black slacks, but he sure makes it look good.

Draco's jaw dropped a little when he saw me. "Wow, er, you look really good." He said, and I blushed a bright red.

"Thanks, you clean up nice." I said, feeling awkward. Blaise is out with Luna, so he isn't here to witness our very awkward "first date."

"Yeah I know." He smirked. "We're going to a nice Italian place, my family and I used to go there a lot before the war. There may be some paparazzi though, so you should prepare yourself." He explained.

"Oh I know there will be. I may or may not have alerted the prophet about our "date" today, so there are probably reporters at every wizarding world restaurant hoping to see us." I  said, smirking at the look on his face.

"Merlin you're determined." He said wide-eyed.

"Nobody messes with Hermione Granger and gets away with it, I'm going to hit him where it hurts. He won't even see what's coming." I scoffed. "Now let's go, we don't want to be late."

He just stared at me and shook his head as I grabbed his arm preparing for side along apparition.

"Okay, well don't forget we have to look like we're madly in love." Draco smirked and then we turned on the spot.

Draco's POV

Hermione looked beautiful. I'm one lucky guy, even if this is all fake. I can't see that horrid scar on her arm today, she must have used a concealment charm.

I snapped back to reality as our feet touched the ground outside of my favorite restaurant. The second we showed up, reporters from the Prophet were surrounding us, taking pictures and asking questions. I put my arm around Hermione's waist, and pulled her closer.

Instead of heading straight into the restaurant like I expected, Hermione flashed a winning smile at the photographers and then kissed me on the cheek! I could feel the spot where her lips were and immediately started wondering how they would feel on mine.

Hermione gently pulled on my arm and we finally went inside looking for my mother.

"I bet all the galleons in my Gringotts account that we'll be front page tomorrow." She whispered in my ear with a cheeky grin.

I just laughed, this is a side of Hermione I've never seen before. I spotted my mother at a table in the back corner and walked towards her.

"Hello mother." I said, squeezing Hermione's hand for support.

"Hello Draco, you're late." She scolded. "You must be  Ms Granger." She said, turning her attention to Hermione.

"Hello Mrs. Malfoy." Hermione said politely. I could see my mother scrutinizing her, looking for any flaws or imperfections. She doesn't care about blood purity anymore, but if you don't look like you could be royalty then you aren't "fit for a Malfoy."

"Well sit down then. I already ordered for myself." Mother said finally. We sat and our waitress came to take our order.

"I'll have your finest red wine, and spaghetti alla puttanesca please." I ordered my regular.

"And for you dear?" She asked Hermione.

"Er, I'll have the same as Draco." Hermione said. Clearly she hasn't been subjected to this type of restaurant before. Our waitress nodded and walked away.

"So Ms Granger, didn't you just have a bad breakup?" My mother asked, insensitively. This time Hermione squeezed my hand before she answered.

"Yes I did. However, if it wasn't for Ronald's little ah.. scheme.. I wouldn't have found comfort in Draco's arms." She then looked me in the eyes, "I can honestly say I've never been happier." She finished. Merlin this girl can act.

I could see my mothers eyes soften a bit, which was a surprise.

"Well then Hermione, what do you do for a living?" My mother asked kindly. This is going well, she even called her by her first name.

Hermione perked up at this. "I work at the ministry in the Department of  Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.." she went on about her passion for helping creatures like House Elves being given rights, and outlawing abuse towards them. I was completely enraptured by her. I loved the way her eyes twinkled when she talked about her job, and the way her lips would upturn slightly in a smile when she described the bills she's gotten passed.

Unfortunately, our food came and she had to stop talking. Even my mother seemed disappointed, I can tell she really likes Hermione.

We finished eating and were all sipping on our wine when my mother asked :

"So when should we start making wedding plans?"

Hermione and I both choked on our wine.

"W-what?" I sputtered.

"I'm just kidding dear!" Mother laughed. She actually laughed. It's been so long since I've heard that, it actually made me smile.

"Well I must get going. I'll have to tell Ms. Parkinson that she should find somebody else. It was very nice meeting you Hermione, you should both stop and visit sometime." Mother stood up and smiled.

"I would love to come visit you Mrs. Malfoy." Hermione stood and gave a warm smile.

"Please call me Narcissa." Mother said, and pulled Hermione into a hug. Wow am I dreaming?

Hermione was beaming as I gave my mother a hug for the first time in years and then we turned to go.

"I think that went well." She said, smiling up at me. This almost feels real, and her looking at me like that makes me feel like my heart is breaking in two.

"Yes it did." I forced a smile.

She grabbed my arm and we turned on the spot heading home.
