Tuesday. Another morning before the next day in new school. Yesterday Kori has been texting with Richard for almost 2 hours. It's a little weird how well those two can communicate with each other, even though they just met. Just like if they were friends from childhood. Kori was eating her breakfast and going through Richard's facebook profile when her father came into the kitchen. He started to prepare his 'every morning coffee' and noticed his daughter's dreaming look. He immediately chuckled to catch her attention and then asked with curiosity.
"What are you so interested in? Last time I saw that expression on your face you wanted to adopt a puppy, like six years ago." Teenager immediately came back to reality and flushed. She hid her phone under the table then met her dad's eyes. His characteristically raised eyebrow alerted her.
"Nothing! You must have misunderstood... I did not sleep very well and I am tired. That is all." Kori quickly responded with her cheeks even redder.
"Hmm... Alright." He simply stated. It seemed too easy. The girl didn't know, that it was just the beginning of the 'interrogation'.
"From what I've heard you met new friends." Her father started.
"Yes." She answered. Kori knew exactly what her dad was about to say.
"How about that boy who was waiting with you yesterday at the parking? Who is he? Are you sure you can trust him?" Kori's dad's always been overprotective. Fortunately, before she could say anything, her phone rang interrupting the whole conversation. She didn't waste her chance to avoid the awkwardness that was about to come right now.
"I am sorry, mom is probably waiting in the car already. I will better be going. Bye Dad!" She said slowly stepping out of the kitchen. She was already out of his view when he called her out.
"Kori!"
She came back and looked questioningly at her father.
"Didn't you forget something?" He said pointing at the backpack laying near the chair.
"Right! Thanks Dad!" She smiled and so her father did.
"You're welcome." He added before she disappeared.
The girl shut the main doors behind her with relief. She looked around and there was no sign of her mom. She quickly checked her phone but then someone called her from garage. When she got there she saw her mom and Richard talking.
"Kori, here you are!" Her mother greeted her cheerfully and turned toward Kori's friend. "I will leave you two alone. It was nice to meet you Richard."
"Likewise Mrs. Anders." He answered politely.
When both teenagers were left alone, Kori asked with curiosity.
"Richard? What are you doing here? How did you know where my house is?" The boy scratched back of his head nervously while answering.
"From your Facebook profile. I thought it would be nice if I walked you to school. It's not too far away from here if you know the right way. By the way... It seems like we're almost neighbors. My house is two streets from here."
Kori smiled shyly while saying, "Yes, it would be most certainly nice. Shall we go?"
"Yeah, we shall." He answered playfully. They both went down the street surrounded by almost the same looking houses. Richard knew a short-cut through the Park. It was almost fall, so leaves already started to change their color and fall off the trees. She was marveling at the alley they were going through. Surrounding them maples, the little wind gently knocking red and yellow leaves over, all of that got Kori into her dreamy-childish mood. The boy noticed her interest in it. He quickly sneaked out of her view and grabbed as much leaves as he could from one of the plies nearby. Her attention was focusing on the beauty around but finally realized that Dick disappeared. Before she could even say anything, leaves landed all over her. It was risky for Richard. He didn't really know Kori that much to do something like this. Her reaction was the unknown. All he saw in response was a smile appearing on her face. She quickly replied to his action, and pushed him into the pile from he took the leaves. She giggled lightly as he was covered all by the colorful reason of this situation. That's how their game began. It's been almost 15 minutes of a continual fight. After that, they both sat on the bench breathing heavily and tittering.
