It was 5:30 in the evening and I was finally off from internship at the Environmental Planning and Development Agency, or better known as the EPDA. Most of my duties consisted of traveling to and from sites to meet with prospects and inspect that everything was in order for office buildings, stores, and even mansions to be built on areas of land. To me, it was a pretty entertaining and rewarding job but today was a rough morning followed by a long day or traveling.
I was just glad to get off but even happier when Andrés text and said he'd sneak out and come meet me tonight. Part of me felt odd; we were basically sneaking around to see each other as if we were teenagers. Big difference is I'm 24 and he's 27. We're not teenagers anymore and this isn't gonna last forever.
When I opened the door at around 10:30 that night, I was surprised to see Andrés standing there with a bouquet of the brightest red roses I'd ever seen and a black box.
"What is this Andrés?" I asked.
"Just wait baby." He smiled and kissed me as he stepped in through the door frame. He slipped his sneakers off and we went to sit by the couch.
"Where's MK and her little girlfriend?" he asked.
"MK went to stay with her tonight," I said quietly, looking down at the floor. I still felt off about this morning but I was still happy to see him.
"What's the matter baby?" he asked, snuggling next to me.
"Nothing Andrés," I responded.
"Then why do you keep calling me Andrés?" he questioned, mocking my voice. That made me giggle. "Here," he said, handing me the book and the flowers. "I know this will cheer you up."
I placed the flowers down beside me as he shoved the box in my hands. "Open it," he commanded, almost child-like.
I lifted the top off the book and there was two L.A. Lakers tickets on top. I felt a huge smile form on my face. It was rare that we went out often just because his fiancée was from some well-known family and he didn't want to potentially get caught by one of her friends. It didn't really bother me not going out but it was nice not to be caged in all the time. I picked up the tickets and looked at him. "Thank you Dré," I said.
"Anything for you mami. Look again though."
I didn't even realize that underneath the tickets there were a blush pair of Valentino studded heels. I squealed with delight. I wasn't big on materialistic things but they were so gorgeous. He smiled back at me.
"And I want you to wear these when I take you out on a date."
My jaw literally dropped. "A what?" I asked.
"A date," he responded simply, shrugging his shoulders. "You know, when two people go out and have dinner or see a movie and then fuck at the end." I rolled my eyes at the last part of his comment.
"You're being serious?" I questioned.
"What do I have to lie to you for?" he answered. I thought about that.
"I mean he does lie to his wife about where he goes. He is cheating," I thought to myself but I kept those comments inside.
"I mean unless you don't wanna go," he said.
"Sorry. Of course I wanna go. Thank you baby. This really means a lot to me. You didn't have to do this."
"Anything for you, my love. I had to make up for this morning. I'm sorry if I scared you," he comforted, moving the box and flowers onto the table.
I kissed him in response and he forcefully kissed back. I leaned him back, straddled his waist, and bit on his lip.
He moved from my lips to my neck and began leaving hickeys. "Dré...." I mumbled between kisses. "Dré..."
