Oh. My. Dog Lord.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!
Save me, Mama!!
‘Mama! Why did we have to get a pet human?’ I asked nudging Mama’s golden fur.
‘Because my pet humans decided to get another one. Since this one is younger, I thought you could keep him,” Mama replied earnestly.
‘But—‘
‘No objections, Max. Now, go to Robbie. Make sure you take good care of him alright? Don’t let him get hurt and treat him like he’s part of our family.' I hung my head and slowly walked over to Robbie, my very own pet human.
I nudged him gently with my nose and he turned to face me. I lifted my front paws up on the couch and wagged my tail, suddenly interested in this tiny creature.
His little hands reached up and poked my nose, I sneezed and little Robbie giggled. How cute!
I jumped down and ran around in a few small circles before jumping up to see Robbie again. He was so much fun!
Maybe I’ll enjoy having a pet human after all!
Or so I thought until he stayed around the house longer. Soon, I found out that he was always either crying or sleeping. He wasn’t any fun at all. He couldn’t run around with me nor could he play with me.
Mama kept on telling me to be patient with him and wait until he gets older. So that’s exactly what I did.
But as he got older, he started learning how to crawl around on all fours. Yeah, that was okay with me, I guess. But when he started walking and became pro at it, that’s what really got complicated.
He constantly chased me around, pulled on my tail, and even sat on me. He sat on me like I was horse! Yes, I’ve seen the two older humans ride horses on the other side of the farm, so I know what horses look like. And from what I can tell, I don’t look like a horse one bit.
One time, I got so frustrated with Robbie that I almost bit him, but of course, I restrained myself. Mama told me repeatedly to ‘never bite your pets’ Of course, us Golden Retrievers are also known to not bite.
But one day, after Robbie got his 3rd birthday as I got my 4th, Mama had fallen asleep outside on the porch. I saw the older humans call some place called the vet hospital and soon a red and white van came and picked up Mama. She never came back, but I hope to see her again.
Mama once told me that all the good-hearted doggies go to doggy heaven and the rest of them wander around as ghosts after they die. I sure don’t feel like wandering around the streets after I die.
After all, Mama had such a kind heart; I bet she went to doggy heaven. I want to see her again, so I must keep a good heart and be kind to my pet. Or rather pets in plural since Mama’s two human pets now belong to me since she’s no longer with us.
