Waiting as always at the station is Serena, still in her date night smile that will linger a few more days followed by withdrawal pouting. I tell her about Michael asking me to study for our biology paper and how it felt so relaxed and comfortable to talk to him. But she doesn't react the way I thought she would, she just stands there staring at me.
"Well say something? Do you think it means anything? Do you think this means him and clementine are finally finished?" Still silent she grabs a piece of my hoody, bringing it into the view, showing me the multicolour of paints clinging to it.
"You know you really are a klutz, no wonder you never where white" she laughs, "Probably why you didn't think of the retributions of you hanging out with Michael like that. You know how this ends Rae". I smile shyly at her letting her know that, as always, she's right.
"Okay so tell me about your date night with Sam instead" Knowing that any more talk of Michael will be forgotten at the mere mention of Sam.
They only see each other on Thursday date nights, due to Sam being in first year computing and mathematics at Southampton, but they are crazy in love. Serena met Sam on a night out in Bournemouth's best club for allowing underage girls in, Lost. Sam had just finished college and already had a place for uni, but Serena was hooked despite the age gap. Her parents disapproved of the relationship, but quickly got over it after seeing how happy they were.
Now any mention of Sam, spurs into at least an hour-long description of the many kisses in the back of Serena's pickup truck, the way all their dates end. I don't mind though, I am just glad for any distraction. Distraction from what Michael promised me not to tell anyone about.
